Lenovo Legion Y520-15IKBN

The Lenovo Legion Y520-15IKBN (80WK007AFR) is a 15-inch high definition notebook designed for versatile and game-oriented use.

Keep in mind that if you want to fully benefit from its capabilities, it is necessary to install a complete system such as a Linux or Windows distribution.

It will then be possible to take advantage of NVIDIA Optimus technology which evaluates in real time the graphic needs according to the tasks requested by the user. If necessary, Optimus switches automatically and in real time between the processor-integrated Intel HD 630 and the GeForce GTX 1050 dedicated card.

Optimus maximizes the Intel HD 630 despite its modest performance because it is energy efficient and promotes autonomy compared to the GeForce GTX 1050 more greedy and powerful.

Thanks to the GeForce GTX 1050, it is possible to indulge in numerous games as long as one makes adjustments under the titles demanding in graphic resources in order to obtain a good fluidity. Of course, whether with the Intel HD 630 or the GeForce GTX 1050, it is possible to watch photos and videos.

The screen just adopts specifications that lend themselves well to this use with its 16 / 9th format, its Full HD definition ideal for displaying High Definition content as well as its IPS technology. With the latter, the colors are reproduced more accurately than average and the vertical and horizontal viewing angles are important. Anti-reflective, the screen is also more legible than a bright slab in bright environment.

In terms of connectivity, this computer is well equipped. There is indeed a USB 3.1 Type-C, Wi-Fi ac and Bluetooth 4.1 wireless modules for connections and remote communications, Ethernet and audio ports, a HDMI video output useful for easy connection to a TV or a monitor for example and 3 USB all compatible both USB 2.0 and USB 3.0, USB 3.0 ensuring transfers made up to 10 times faster than USB 2.0 if you plug in USB 3.0 devices.

Good point, the keyboard chiclet benefits from a system of backlighting keys, enough to distinguish them when the ambient light is low.

In terms of storage, Lenovo opts here for a hard drive with a significant capacity of 1000 GB. As an M.2 slot is available, we can associate this hard drive to a dedicated SSD which allows to gain capacity and reactivity.

Responsiveness so far we can not say that this laptop is really lacking with its Kaby Lake i5-7300HQ Quad Core processor and its 8 GB of RAM ensuring overall performance to fill a maximum of users.

We thus benefit from daily operation much faster than if we were dealing with a Dual Core processor (or quad core low power) and 4 GB DDR3 / 4. The difference is especially noticeable in the CPU and RAM resource-intensive domains exploiting multicore architecture (eg 3D rendering, video editing, photo editing).
