Apple Watch SE Specs, Details, & Review

Now that there are only a few months left of 2021, Apple is keeping fans excited by hinting at some new releases. In fact, the company is planning to release a new version of the Apple Watch SE next year. This version will be primarily for fitness enthusiasts, but it’ll still have the same features that make it well worth the investment.

While you wait for the latest release, here are the features you can expect from the current Apple Watch SE.

Affordability

The Apple Watch SE offers plenty of features at a relatively affordable price point. In fact, it has similar features to the Apple Watch Series 6. To illustrate, one of the biggest similarities between the Apple Watch SE and the Apple Watch Series 6 is that they both have the largest and most advanced OLED displays. But the Apple Watch SE is a step up as it has an advanced health and fitness tracker that can monitor your heart rate and track your sleep. It even has a fall detection feature, which analyzes your wrist trajectory and impact acceleration to help you out during emergencies.

The Apple Watch SE is relatively affordable, so there are also significant differences from the Apple Watch Series 6. For instance, Watch Series 6 users can opt to have stainless steel or titanium watch bands while Watch SE users can only go for Apple Watch bands. Furthermore, the cost-friendly smartwatch doesn’t have ECG and blood oxygen monitoring sensors. Even Casio’s G-Shock GBD-H1000 smartwatch is more advanced than the Apple Watch SE in this area, because the former can measure your oxygen saturation and heart rate. On top of that, the Casio smartwatch also has a barometer, thermometer, and acceleration sensor. Thus, fitness buffs may have to upgrade to more advanced smartwatches to enjoy much better features.

Design and Performance

The Apple Watch SE is proof that consumers can always expect great quality Apple products, regardless of the price. For instance, the Apple Watch SE is two times faster and 30% larger than the Series 3 watches, despite being sold at a much cheaper price. No doubt this combination of style and substance is due to Apple’s intuitive design. The smartwatch’s rigid-flex PCB means the product design is very sleek within a strict mechanical housing, so there’s no need to sacrifice compactness for functionality.

Thanks to the design, Apple can launch wearable electronics with high speeds and advanced features. Case in point: the Apple Watch SE offers swifter processing and an 18-hour battery life. It also supports Bluetooth 5.0 and 2.4GHz Wi-Fi so it can transfer data at extremely fast speeds. As an added bonus, it’s even water-resistant up to 50 meters. Still, given the Apple Watch SE’s price point, it has a few performance limitations. For one, it hasn’t got the Always-On functionality found in the Series 6. The budget smartwatch doesn’t have the U1 Ultra Wideband chip either that’s great for location tracking and better spatial awareness.

Special Features

Despite the drawbacks, the Apple Watch SE’s current features make it a great buy for fitness enthusiasts on a budget. However, it also has features that are great for families who want to stay connected. Family members will benefit from this budget-friendly smartwatch because of its Family Setup feature. This program allows parents to keep an eye on their kids by tracking them. All they need to do is connect their child’s Apple Watch to their iPhone so that they can monitor their whereabouts.

The Apple Watch SE is certainly worth the money. Above all else it boasts similar features as the Apple Watch Series 6. However, it is ideal for consumers who want basic fitness features or need the Family Setup feature for their kids.
