Asus has chosen to install its Asus R702UA-GC1031T in a compact chassis , looking like big 15 inches. At the front of the stage, its weight of 2.1 kg guides it towards a little mobility. Then, the aesthetics opt for an elegant gray cover adorned with a soft effect with concentric circles while the interior opts for a silver coating brushed around the touchpad and stitched around the keyboard. The assembly is correct even if the plastic predominates and the refined silhouette of the PC is welcome. On the other hand, the absence of a backlit keyboard can upset some.
At the opening, we discover a Full HD screen (1920 x 1080 pixels), a beneficial definition with its high display density allowing to view High Definition content in the best conditions and to modulate the display. But the most of this screen is its IPS panel with wide approach angles. What is more, the screen is given with 300 nits of brightness and 100% of the sRGB colorimetric surface covered, which is rare at this price level / End with its comfortable anti – reflective treatment in bright environment.
The connection is largely gathered on the right side of the computer, a detail to take into account if you plan to handle a mouse and connect different peripherals at the same time (RJ45, HDMI, power supply …). The level is correct even if the restyling of the shell has led to the elimination of the optical drive. There is an SD card reader, an HDMI output and four USB ports including a USB 3.0 and a USB 3.1 Type-C (versatile). Data transfer is provided by Gigabit Ethernet and recent Wifi AC and Bluetooth 4.1 modules.
Performance, autonomy of the Asus R702UA-GC1031T
On the front line, storage is the decisive element in this configuration since it is entrusted to a dedicated SSD of 512 GB . This type of storage is essential in 2020 to benefit from a reactive and functional environment. Indeed, compared to the traditional hard drive that we still find in some configurations, the SSD is notably quieter, robust and energy efficient. It also allows Windows (or any other operating system) to reach an ideal level of fluidity with short loading times and execution without latencies. This processor is intended for office automation aimed at all everyday tasks (web browsing, Office pack, video playback, etc.) with only a very small field of action for occasional photo editing. On the other hand, the 8 GB of RAM is precious to give navigation a boost and an impression of “performance”, all the more if you like multitasking.
From a graphical point of view, the HD 520 chip integrated into the processor is not capable of satisfying gamers but easily supports current use such as video streaming or the display of complex web pages.
The autonomy should be around 5 hours in Internet browsing with active Wifi, this is satisfactory for this diagonal which is not very transportable.
