Chassis, connectors, screen of Acer Spin 5 SP513-54N-75AN
For 2020, Acer is almost leaving a blank page for its Spin 5 in 13 inches 2020 and it\’s smart. It is true that the previous SP513-53N with its wide edges and its heavy weight was not very exciting. With the Acer Spin 5 SP513-54N-75AN, Acer presents a new aluminum chassis in a very sober gray tone, but awakened by a coppery central logo which marks the elegance. All surfaces are smooth and matt on an angular structure in a compact format.
The big room for improvement on the Spin 5 concerned the measurements and Acer did a fairly good metamorphosis since the Spin 5 SP513-54N-75AN lost not less than 2.4 cm in width and almost 400 grams on the scale for a small weight reduced to 1.2 kg . The depth remains the same but Acer takes advantage of this space to extend its screen in a 3: 2 format that extends vertically.
Speaking of it, the screen is therefore the first winner of this compaction which gives it much finer side and upper borders than on its predecessor leading to a screen / box ratio of 80% . It also catches the eye thanks to its unconventional format of 3: 2 and not 16: 9 as on almost all other laptops on the market. This one lends itself very well to office automation since it makes it possible to display more lines of text in height and a little less with the reading of films, which scoop of widened black bands. By the way, its 2K definition(QHD; 2256 x 1504 pixels) on a 13.5-inch panel allows access to High Definition and to modulate the display as appropriate (juxtaposition of windows, magnification of characters …) without losing sharpness even if on a 13 “screen, it will be necessary to play on the scaling so as not to be faced with lowercase characters.
Add that we are dealing with a more flattering gloss screen than satin or mat. If some will take a dim view of this last point, it is justified by the addition of touch technology which allows you to understand the Windows environment in a more fun and functional way (for some), with your fingertips. To take advantage of this, you benefit from an active Wacom AES stylus which finds its storage and charging space directly on the side of the chassis. It is very practical to always have it on hand and to work on the touch with precision.
For a 13 inch in 2020, the connection is pleasantly varied. The left side of the ultrabook houses the power supply, an HDMI output, two USB Type-C ports that support Thunderbolt 3 , a versatile and state-of-the-art format, as well as a standard size USB 3.1 ports and card reader microSD. The right has a headphone jack, another USB 3.1 port, and a Kensington lock. A Windows Hello compatible fingerprint reader is present on the touchpad and connectivity is provided by Wifi 6 ax and by Bluetooth 5.0.
Performance, autonomy of the Acer Spin 5 SP513-54N-75AN
To propel it, the Acer Spin 5 SP513-54N-75AN can count on a 10th generation processor, a low-consumption quad-core Core i7-1065G7 . It works in favor of everyday use (web browsing, video playback, spreadsheet, etc.) but can also face more resource-intensive tasks such as video editing, export or photo editing. Indeed, this processor gains significantly in performance on the 9th generation and will thus gain a few seconds of execution on certain works in particular. Opposite, the RAM provides 16 GB RAM , a large total for multitasking which allows us to see the coming years serenely.
But where the difference is more marked between the Gen9 and the Gen10 processor, it is at the level of the graphics chip integrated into the processor, in this case the Intel Iris Plus G7 . Intel muscle its integrated solution until flirting with the performance of NVIDIA MX150 / MX250 and Radeon Vega 10 at AMD. One nuance, however, we miss back on this solution which depends above all on the cooling system adopted by the manufacturer, HP here. Anyway, at this level, you should be able to play many games in 1080p in good conditions and work on tasks that consume enough graphics power (Lightroom).
Another fundamental element here, the storage is entrusted to an NVMe PCIe 512 GB SSD . This significantly improves the overall responsiveness of the system on a daily basis. Based on a PCIe interface faster than SATA3, the SSD ensures shorter loading times, almost instant Windows launch and very fast file copies. What is more, its capacity is quite honest and can accommodate a good part of your toy library.
Let’s finish with autonomy which is a strong point of this model. Thanks to its large capacity battery (56 Whr), Acer announces 15 hours of autonomy but in the context of common and mixed use, it is more realistic to count on an autonomy of about 9 hours , which allows the \’\’ take away for a day without leaving in search of a power outlet.
