Chassis, connectors, screen of the Asus VivoBook S413FA-EK759T

Asus redesigns its 14-inch ultrabook aimed at tight budgets. With VivoBook S413FA-EK759T takes its chassis from its predecessor (S412) by changing the aesthetics. Asus offers its S14 a colorful range and opts here for a “Dreamy White” design which offers a white back with light reflections sometimes light blue sometimes pink / purple facing a more classic silver base. It\’s original while avoiding a too garish color. Asus, however, wanted to add a colorful touch to the opening with the Enter key framed in bright yellow. “ Say \’Yellow!\’ To the world ” according to Asus.

Its weight has been significantly reduced to 1.45 kg and, added to its compact size (325 x 215 mm), this makes it the perfect little companion for studious outings. However, we have already seen thinner on this type of ultrabook (19 mm) but for entry level, it is very well optimized. Note that Asus reinforces the back of the aluminum cover for more robustness but that the rest of the case is made of polycarbonate (plastic), like the majority of laptops at this level. Regarding the keyboard, it does not seem that the model concerned here does not have a backlighting system.

The screen also plays a decisive role in the aesthetic rendering of the ultrabook and its refined NanoEdge contours will not only increase the feeling of immersion but also allow a 14-inch panel to slide into a 13-inch chassis. It benefits from a Full HD definition (1920 x 1080 px) which provides a healthy display density to modulate the display or view High Definition content in the best conditions. In addition, the anti-glare coating facilitates viewing in strong ambient light and viewing angles are stabilized despite the use of TN. Note that the screen is placed on ErgoLift hinges which will raise the keyboard base when the cover is opened, a plus for comfort.

Well distributed, the connectors bring together most of the interfaces currently expected at this level of the range. There is an HDMI output, a microSD card reader as well as two USB 2.0 ports, a USB 3.1 port and a USB Type-C , which is one more USB port than on the S412. On this model, no biometric connection possibility (Windows Hello) and connectivity is entrusted to Wifi ac and Bluetooth 5.0. There is probably no NumPad on this reference.

Performance, battery life of the Asus VivoBook S413FA-EK759T

The recent processor (10th gen) Comet Lake will constitute the engine of the VivoBook S413FA-EK759T. It is a Core i3-10110U Dual Core low consumption which significantly improves performance compared to its predecessor (i3-8145U) thanks to a higher Turbo Boost frequency (4.1 Ghz). In fact, it provides perfect support for everyday use (Web browsing, Office processing, video) and a little mastery in slightly more demanding applications such as video editing, in reasonable proportions however. The 8 GB RAM ensures comfortable and smooth multitasking.

In the absence of a dedicated graphics card inside this ultrabook, the Intel UHD 620 chip integrated into the processor is the only one to take care of the processing. It is estimated at the level of a GeForce MX110, which should allow some casual players to launch some undemanding titles in Full HD with a decent fluidity.

From its configuration also stands out the storage which gives pride of place to responsiveness. Indeed, a dedicated 256 GB SSD is in the game, allowing to bring its share of fluidity to Windows 10 and to the overall execution of programs while not sacrificing too much capacity. If we count the space occupied by the system and by the programs, there is about 200 GB of free space, enough to house a small part of your game library. For the rest, you will have to opt for an external or online solution.

Finally, know that Asus has slightly reinforced the battery of its little VivoBook but its 42 Whr will not be able to take you very far. Count on barely 5 to 6 hours of Internet browsing with active WiFi.
