Chassis, connectors, screen of the Acer Aspire 5 A517-52G-548M
With its fine light silver anodized aluminum design, this versatile laptop has a sleek and understated look.
It has good connectivity including 1 USB-C, Wi-Fi ax wireless modules ( more recent and efficient than Wi-Fi ac ) and Bluetooth 5.0 for remote connections and communications, a practical HDMI video output in order to easily connect this PC to a TV or a monitor for example, Ethernet and audio ports but also 3 USBs all compatible with both USB 2.0 and USB 3.0, the USB 3.0 guaranteeing transfers taking place up to 10 times more quickly than in USB 2.0 if you plug in USB 3.0 peripherals.
As a fingerprint reader is integrated, we can authenticate biometrically via Windows Hello technology.
The chiclet keyboard is adorned with a backlighting system expected and nevertheless appreciable so that we can better distinguish its keys in the event of reduced ambient light.
The screen benefits from the Acer Bluelight Shield technology which attenuates up to 30% the blue light it emits. With its 16: 9 format and precise Full HD definition, the screen is also very suitable for displaying videos and in particular High Definition content. As it is anti-reflective, the screen is also less tiring for the eyes in prolonged use than a shiny panel and more readable in a bright environment (eg outdoors). Thanks to its IPS technology, the screen also has significant viewing angles, both horizontally and vertically.
Performance, battery life of the Acer Aspire 5 A517-52G-548M
The Acer Aspire 5 A517-52G-548M is a 17-inch thin High Definition laptop computer designed for everyday versatile use on the go.
Those who want to be able to use their PC for several hours peacefully away from a power outlet will be delighted that this model can last about 7 hours on battery in light use.
That said if its smoothness will be appreciated by many, its weight does not make it very easily transportable like its large format which is however comfortable in the context of mainly sedentary use (eg at home) .
As for graphics processing, we find the Intel Iris Xe solution (tested by us) integrated into the processor and the dedicated GeForce MX350 card. On-board NVIDIA Optimus technology automatically switches between the two in real time as needed.
Optimus favors as much as possible the Iris Xe although it is slightly less efficient because it does not consume much energy and thus favors the battery life compared to the GeForce MX350 which is certainly more greedy but also a little more efficient.
The GeForce MX350 is activated by Optimus to perform graphics processing deemed too heavy for the Iris Xe. With one or the other, you can watch photos and videos but also run games that are not too greedy in 3D resources, in a little larger number thanks to the GeForce MX350.
The Iris Xe is integrated into the low-power Intel Tiger Lake i5-1135G7 Quad Core, a processor here associated with 8 GB of RAM to deliver good overall performance capable of satisfying many users.
However, if the objective is often to perform work that requires processor resources, it is preferable to turn to a PC equipped with a non-low consumption processor.
On the storage side, there is an SSD which clearly reinforces the fluidity and responsiveness on a daily basis compared to a simple hard drive.
Thanks to the SSD, we take advantage of much faster starts / stops as well as the processing and launching of software / games, or even a faster arrival on the cards of online games.
Why ? Because an SSD is much faster than a hard drive but also less energy, more robust and silent.
With its 512 GB, the SSD offers a capacity in phase with the standard of hard disks. Of course, if you need additional space, you can rely on an external storage unit such as a USB-C / USB 3.0 device to benefit from fast transfers.
