Modular to accompany you on all your travels, the Acer Spin 3 SP314-21N-R4BD is a 14-inch convertible tablet, that is to say that its Full HD IPS touch screen opens to 360 degrees to multiply the uses with the addition of an integrated stylus to make the most of your multimedia content. The AMD Athlon Silver processor is perfectly at home in the office environment and its storage guarantees responsiveness (256 GB SSD). Little more, the keyboard is backlit, the aluminum case and the connections complete with a fingerprint reader but the autonomy does not break records and its format can quickly become bulky in tablet mode.

Frame, connectors, screen of the Acer Spin 3 SP314-21N-R4BD
Acer makes a welcome aesthetic update on its Spin 3 and changes almost everything from the design to the measurements to the slimmer bezels. Indeed, if the top and bottom edges remain bulky for 2020, the black stripes on the sides are reduced to modernize the design. A design that remains very sober in a consensual silver color and matt and smooth surfaces. There is little more than the chrome Acer logo on the back of the PC to wake it up.
Another advance and not the least, Acer abandons the plastic chassis of the previous Spin 3 to offer this SP314-21N a more solid and premium unibody aluminum case .
The keyboard with black keys is backlit in white on 2 intensity levels.
As stated above, Acer has slightly adjusted the measurements of its Spin 3 but it remains quite bulky with a thickness of 16.9 mm and a weight of 1.5 kg . It’s much better than the 20mm and 1.7kg Spin 3 from last year, but using it in tablet mode shouldn’t be very comfortable.
Because this Acer Spin SP314-21N-R4BD was initially designed for fun mobile use. Indeed, its 360-degree rotating hinges allow the screen to adopt several positions: in front for normal use, flat, in tent mode or even in easel function.
Determining on this type of convertible configuration, the screen does not have the chance to display thin screen borders but comfort does not suffer, it is more a matter of taste and aesthetics. Its Full HD definition (1920 x 1080 px) will be ideal for reading your content in High Definition thanks to its high display density while the IPS panel will take care of opening the viewing angles and reproducing faithfully colors. In addition, the shiny tactile surface will allow a playful interaction with the system but its visibility outdoors will be impaired by some reflections.
On the connectivity side, Acer has provided our Spin 3 with a nice and varied selection. There is a microSD card reader, an HDMI output and three USB ports including two USB 3.2 as well as a valuable USB Type-C Gen2 port. The wireless modules are recent but not state of the art with Wifi AC and Bluetooth 5.0 and a fingerprint reader is placed in the upper left corner of the touchpad to allow fast and secure access to your session via Windows Hello.
Performance, autonomy of the Acer Spin 3 SP314-21N-R4BD
At the heart of the laptop, we are dealing with a low-power AMD Athlon Silver 3050U APU presented at the same time as the Ryzen 4000 series at the start of 2020. This small processor delivers sufficient performance to run all common tasks (surfing the Internet, office tools, video playback) as well as minimal editing. Too bad it is held back by the limited amount of RAM (4 GB) which does not allow much room in multitasking. These days, 6-8 GB of RAM is recommended for smooth browsing in Windows 10.
Fortunately, storage is entrusted to a 256 GB M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD , bringing its share of fluidity to Windows 10 and overall program execution, knowing that it comes at the capacity level. If we count the space occupied by the system and by the programs, there is only about 200 GB of free space, enough to house a small part of your game library. For the rest, you will have to opt for an external or online storage solution.
The AMD Radeon Vega 2 chipset integrated into the processor will take care of the graphics rendering, enough to support current use without the possibility of playing except facebook games.
Let us end with a notion of autonomy. The ultrabook should provide 7 hours of autonomy in Internet browsing with active Wifi with its small 48Whr battery.
