Chassis, connectors, Acer Swift SF314-57-53AP screen
The Swift 3 is famous in the Acer office range and among the best ultrabooks in its category. For 2019, Acer has properly redesigned its “best seller” and offers it a new screen made of lithium-magnesium-aluminum alloy. This hybrid material crossed on the Swift 5 and 7 so far is known for its solidity but also and above all on its lightness. Thus, the Acer Swift SF314-57-53AP can advance 1.19 kg on the scale only. The format has also been compacted and shows a thickness of 16 mm .
The keyboard is backlit with white on several brightness levels. It is practical to clearly distinguish its black keys in the dark.
We find the angular silhouette of the Swift 3 SF314-55 to which Acer has associated on this model a matt gray surface of the most neutral. The care given to the finishes is visible and the assembly is of quality even if a few details betray its “mid-range” positioning like its black plastic frame around the screen.
Speaking of him, the screen takes advantage of 6 mm lateral borders favoring immersion. It takes advantage of a dense Full HD definition (1920 x 1080 px) which allows you to make the most of the High Definition content while the IPS panel promotes immersion with a perfectly readable display whatever the angle of approach and a balanced colorimetry. Acer preserves its ComfyView matte panel , more visibility if you have to work outside or travel by train for example.
Finally, the connection is distributed on the sides of the case and accommodates all the necessary, and even a little more. There are a total of three USB ports including a USB 2. ° (right, for the mouse), a USB 3.1 port as well as a versatile USB Type-C Gen2 . Surprise, it supports Thunderbolt 3 , a format previously reserved for high-end PCs that offers speeds up to 10 Gbps as well as video output and load in particular. There is also an HDMI output and a biometric reader(under the keyboard, on the right) to secure your data and authenticate yourself to your session with a simple touch of your finger (Windows Hello). The Wifi module benefits from the latest 802.11 AX standard and Bluetooth 5.0 is also on the menu. The SD card reader has disappeared, however.
Performances, autonomy of the Acer Swift 3 SF314-57-53AP
Before talking about its capabilities, a word on the autonomy of this multimedia ultrabook. Indeed, despite its small profile, Acer still managed to slide a 50Whr battery, allowing it to be self-sufficient for 9 hours . A force to take with you an entire day.
The 10th generation Ice Lake processor will propel the ultrabook to versatile spheres. It is a Quad Core i5-1035G1 low consumption which should gain significantly in power compared to its predecessors (i5-8565U Whiskey Lake / i5-10210U Comet Lake) thanks to a finer engraving (10 nm). For the most part, it fully supports current use (Web browsing, Office processing, video) and masters very greedy applications very well, requiring multicore architecture (video editing, advanced Photoshop, lightweight Lightroom …) . Opposite, the 8 GB RAM provides a fluid multitasking environment.
The integrated Intel UHD G1 graphics part is comparable to an Intel UHD 620 integrated in processors of previous generations. It takes care of graphic tasks related to current use and can even support some occasional games as long as they are not too greedy.
Let’s finish with a slightly limiting point now: storage. On this Swift SF314-57-53AP, it is based only on a dedicated 256 GB SSD (NVMe PCIe) and that\’s it. If this solution is preferred for its reactivity and for the fluidity that it offers to Windows 10 as well as for its silent, robust and energy-saving side, its capacity is quite limited here to limit the costs and will only be able to accommodate a few of your games in addition to the operating system and programs.
