“Professionals need a laptop with a sleek, space-saving design that can go with them all day long, and powerful enough to run multiple demanding programs simultaneously. James Lin, Acer Inc.
It is a balancing act to want to marry performance, battery life and compact chassis in a laptop PC, and a Holy Grail that all manufacturers are pursuing. Acer takes another step in the right direction with the Acer Swift X, its nickname SFX14-41G. Its metal case weighs 1.39 kg on the scale and is 17.9 mm thick , a format that seems to make the right compromises for a 14 inches even if we do not know the dimensions of the case.
Speaking of him, he always borrows a more sober design with smooth surfaces and very discreet finishing details but the colors offered are unusual, in pastel blue, pink or gold tones . These colors only concern the back of the cover while the base remains silver. A good thing to stay fairly neutral from the front.
With the Swift X, Acer opens a new page in the Swift family in terms of performance. It is indeed the first to accommodate dedicated RTX graphics cards, in this case the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 4 GB GDDR5 and GeForce RTX 3050 Ti 4 GB GDDR5. Opposite, we have an AMD Ryzen 7 5800U Octo Core processor (Cezanne-U, Zen 3), 16 GB of RAM and up to 2 TB of SSD storage .
The Swift X features a 14-inch IPS Full HD (1920 x 1080px) display with an 85.7% screen-to-body ratio, 300 nits brightness, and 100% sRGB color coverage . It brings together many ports, including a USB 3.2 Type-C Gen 2 which supports video streaming and battery charging and Wi-Fi 6. Acer does not say more about the connectivity integrated into its Swift X but the visuals allow us to deduce the presence of two USB 3.2 ports and an HDMI output. Some people will undoubtedly regret the card reader. We also notice the presence of a fingerprint readerisolated under the arrows of the keyboard. This is probably the only Windows Hello login mode (no infrared webcam). Acer announces however that it has improved noise cancellation via AI for smoother video calls but does not communicate on the definition of the webcam.
Finally, Acer worked on the cooling system of its SFX14-41G consisting of two fans (59 0.3mm blades) and two copper heat pipes. Regarding battery life, a 59Whr battery with fast charge is integrated and offers up to 17 hours of battery life according to Acer.
The Acer Swift X (SFX14-41G) will be available this summer from 899 euros.
