Performance, autonomy of the Asus P1701FA-AU676R

The Asus P1701FA-AU676R is a rather thin and light 17-inch laptop for everyday use.

In this area as in surfing on the Internet and office automation, this PC delivers good performances. It is in fact built around a good amount of 8 GB RAM, appreciable in multitasking, and a low-consumption Whiskey Lake processor Core i3-8145U Turbo.
As a reminder, the Core i3 Turbo offer significantly higher power compared to non-Turbo Core i3 processors (= Core i3-7xxxU and lower).

Note, however, that the Core i3 Turbo shows its limits under software that consumes processor resources. In addition as it does not come with a dedicated graphics card, this computer is not designed to play and more generally for demanding graphics work. However thanks to the benefits of the Intel UHD 620 solution (admittedly modest) integrated into the Core i3 Turbo, we can obviously watch photos and videos on this laptop.

As for storage, Asus chooses an SSD. It has the advantage of ensuring a much more reactive and fluid operation than a simple hard drive. Thanks to the SSD, we benefit for example from application start / stop launches and much faster.

It must be said that an SSD is much faster than a hard drive but also less energy-consuming, more shock-resistant and quieter. Here however, there is a built-in 256 GB SSD, capacity below the standard of hard drives. However, it is sufficient for a number of uses.

That said if 256 GB is too tight, you can always rely on an external storage unit. Opting for a USB 3.0 device then represents an interesting solution to benefit from fast transfers.

As for the autonomy of this large format computer whose transport is facilitated by the finesse and lightness (for a 17 inch), expect about 4 hours of battery operation in light use. In any case, this PC adopts a comfortable format, mainly intended for sedentary use (ex: at home).
