Chassis, connectors, screen of the Asus VivoBook S15 S533EA-L12982W
With its thin and light Indie Black dark aluminum design, this versatile laptop sports a discreet look, the Enter key of the keyboard is cut from yellow bringing a touch of originality.
Rechargeable to 60% in 49 minutes, this Ultrabook is cooled by 2 fans (87 thin 0.2mm crystal-liquid polymer blades) and air vents.
It also offers 3 preset operating modes: Performance (power), Balanced (balanced) and Whisper (silent, economical).
This laptop is well equipped in terms of connectivity with its USB-C, its HDMI video output useful to easily connect it to a TV or monitor for example, its Wi-Fi ac and Bluetooth 4.2 modules for wireless remote connections and communications, its audio port or its 3 USB all compatible USB 2.0 and USB 3.0, USB 3.0 guarantees transfers up to 10 times faster than USB 2.0 if you plug in a USB 3.0 device.
However, we regret not having to deal with newer and more powerful Wi-Fi ax and Bluetooth 5 wireless modules.
We appreciate in any case to be able to backlight the keys of the chiclet keyboard to better distinguish them when the ambient light is limited.
The screen will be of particular interest to users who want to achieve much more faithful than average colors with deep blacks, very low latency as well as significant vertical and horizontal viewing angles as it adopts Pantone DCI-P3 OLED technology. In addition, the screen lends itself well to the display of videos and more broadly High Definition content with its 16/9th format and full HD definition. As it is anti-reflective, the screen is also more readable in bright environments (e.g. outside) than a shiny slab.
Performance, battery life of the Asus VivoBook S15 S533EA-L12982W
The Asus VivoBook S15 S533EA-L12982W is a thin and light 15-inch High Fidelity laptop intended for common versatile use.
It benefits from a good amount of RAM of 16 GB very appreciable in multitasking and to accompany the processor, an Intel Tiger Lake low consumption Quad Core i5-1135G7.
The general performance provided by this core is able to satisfy many users, especially since the Intel Iris Xe graphics part (which we tested) housed within the Core i5 allows you to watch photos and videos but also to run games that are not too demanding in 3D resources.
However, if we plan to often perform work that consumes CPU and / or graphics resources, we benefit from turning instead to a PC based on a non-low-power processor and / or a suitable dedicated graphics card.
On the storage side, there is an SSD that clearly reinforces fluidity and responsiveness on a daily basis compared to a simple hard disk. It must be said that an SSD is silent, less energy-consuming, more robust and much faster than a hard drive.
Thanks to the SSD, software starts/stops, processes and launches are much faster, for example, and you can get to the cards of online games faster.
Here we find an SSD whose capacity of 512 GB corresponds to what hard drives offer as standard. However, in case this is insufficient, a 2.5-inch slot is free to add a second SSD or hard drive. Of course, you can also use an external storage unit. Favoring a USB-C/USB 3.0 device is then an interesting option to obtain fast transfers.
As for the autonomy of this versatile Ultrabook whose transport is facilitated by the finesse and the controlled weight, count on about 6 hours of operation on battery in light use.
