Chassis, connectors, screen of the Asus VivoBook S17 S712EA-BX502W
With its relatively thin light silver Transparent Silver design, this versatile laptop sports a sleek and unobtrusive look.
It has good connectivity with its USB-C, its Wi-Fi ac and Bluetooth 4.0 modules for wireless remote connections and communications, its audio port, its convenient HDMI video output to easily connect it to a TV or monitor for example or its 3 USB all compatible USB 2.0 and USB 3.0, USB 3.0 guaranteeing transfers made up to 10 times faster than USB 2.0 if a USB 3.0 device is plugged into it.
We appreciate that the screen reproduces the colors more faithfully than the average, without however reaching the fidelity provided by the high-end IPS or OLED panels obviously with regard to the price charged. Thanks to its anti-reflective treatment, the screen is in any case more readable than a shiny slab in bright environments (eg outside) and less tiring for the eyes in prolonged use. For the rest, the screen adopts classic specifications, namely a definition of 1600×900 associated with a 16/9th format suitable for playing videos.
Performance, battery life of the Asus VivoBook S17 S712EA-BX502W
The Asus VivoBook S17 S712EA-BX502W is a relatively thin large format laptop designed for common versatile use.
The performance it delivers in everyday use, such as office automation and Internet surfing, is good because it is built around a low-power Intel Core i3-1115G4 Tiger Lake processor associated with a good amount of RAM of 8 GB very useful in multitasking.
In addition, thanks to the Intel UHD G4 graphics solution housed in the Core i3, you can watch photos and videos but also play light titles.
However, it should be borne in mind that the Core i3-1115G4 shows its limits under CPU-intensive software, like amd Ryzen 3 and less powerful processors of course.
On the storage side, we like to find embedded an SSD that rivals the standard of hard drives in terms of capacity with its 512 GB while being silent, more robust, less energy-consuming and much faster.
Concretely thanks to the SSD, the starts/stops and launches of applications have much faster for example and we reach faster on the cards of online games.
The SSD guarantees more widely a better responsiveness and fluidity to use than a simple hard disk.
Of course in the event that 512 GB is too fair, we can rely on an external storage unit. Favoring a USB-C/USB 3.0 device is then an interesting option to obtain fast transfers.
One can also directly integrate a second SSD or a hard disk via the free 2.5-inch slot.
As for the autonomy of this relatively thin computer for a 17-inch, large format not the most easily transportable but comfortable in the context of a mostly sedentary use (eg at home), count on about 4 hours of operation on battery in light use.
