Combining the comfort of a 17 inch format and the elegance of an ultrabook, the Asus VivoBook S712DA-BX268T has a few arguments to seduce. Inside its 2.3 kg silver case, a fast solid-state SSD storage (512 GB) associated with a Ryzen 3 Dual Core processor and 8 GB of RAM, an ideal package for office automation that favors system speed. The connections are correct and its large 17-inch anti-reflective screen allows you to work in good conditions. Be aware all the same that it will not be necessary to expect much from its autonomy and that the screen is limited by a standard definition (1600 x 900 px / TN).

Chassis, connectors, screen of the Asus VivoBook S712DA-BX268T
Asus installs its Asus S712DA-BX268T in a compact chassis, looking like big 15 inches. On the front of the stage, its compact format 406 x 253 mm and its beautiful fineness of 21 mm which guide it towards a little mobility. Then, the aesthetics opt for an elegant sober and smooth silver on the entire shell, except around the keyboard with an embossed effect, and drawn edges. The assembly is correct even if the plastic predominates and the sleek silhouette of the PC is welcome.
Around the screen, Asus sought to slightly refine the borders but without doing so in the borderless, which does not detract from the charm of the ultrabook. We discover a screen with basic specifications: a standard definition (1600 x 900 px) and the support of a TN panel leading to narrow viewing angles. Good point nonetheless, the anti-reflective treatment will prevent glare situations in a bright environment.
Well distributed, the connectivity brings together the essentials of the interfaces expected at present at this level of range. There is an HDMI output, a microSD card reader and three USB Type-A ports, two of which are still limited by the 2.0 standard. A USB Type-C is also in the game as well as the Wifi AC and Bluetooth 4.1 modules. However, no fingerprint reader is provided.
Performance, battery life of the Asus VivoBook S712DA-BX268T
In the foreground, the storage is entrusted to an M.2 NVMe PCIe 512 GB SSD which will bring a welcome dose of responsiveness to the system. Compared to a standard mechanical hard drive, it is quieter, more robust and energy efficient and allows Windows to reach a remarkable level of fluidity with short loading times and execution without latencies. What is more, its capacity is not ridiculous and can accommodate a good part of your toy library even if some may not find it sufficient.
At its heart, there is also a low consumption AMD Ryzen 3 3200U APU . Without being able to match the latest Core i3-8130U or i3-8145U from Intel due to the absence of Turbo from AMD, it is perfectly suited for surfing the web, playing videos or doing spreadsheets and even a little photo editing on occasion. What\’s more, fluency in multitasking is there thanks to the 8 GB RAM .
Finally, autonomy is not the strength of our VivoBook S712DA-BX268T even if its design leaves us dreaming of a little mobility. Its small battery does not offer much more than 4 to 5 hours of autonomy in Internet browsing with active Wifi.
