Chassis, connectors, screen of the Asus VivoBook S712FA-BX654T
Asus installs its Asus S712FA-BX654T in a compacted chassis, looking big 15 inches. On the front of the stage, its compact 406 x 253 mm format and its thinness of 21 mm which guide it towards a little mobility. Then, the aesthetic opts for an elegant sober and smooth silver on the entire shell, except around the keyboard with an embossed effect, and drawn edges. The assembly is correct even if the plastic predominates and the clean silhouette of the PC is welcome. Note that the keyboard is backlit , a plus for working in a dark environment.
Around the screen, Asus has sought to slightly refine the borders, but without being borderless, which does not detract from the charm of the ultrabook. We discover a screen with basic specifications: a standard definition (1600 x 900 px) and the support of a TN panel leading to narrow viewing angles. Good point however, the anti-reflective treatment will prevent glare situations in a bright environment.
Well distributed, the connectors bring together most of the interfaces currently expected at this level of the range. There is an HDMI output, a microSD card reader and three USB Type-A ports, two of which are still limited by the 2.0 standard. A USB Type-C is also part of the game as well as the AC Wifi and Bluetooth 4.1 modules. No fingerprint reader planned on the other hand but a numeric keypad that makes up the keyboard, a plus for those who regularly enter numbers.
Performance, battery life of the Asus VivoBook S712FA-BX654T
The recent Core i3-10110U Dual Core low power processor is the powerhouse of the VivoBook S712FA-BX654T. We are not at the level of a Quad Core but the CPU still benefits from a Turbo Boost (4.1 Ghz), which significantly exceeds the current spectrum. In fact, it provides perfect support for everyday use (Web browsing, Office processing, video) and a little mastery in slightly more demanding applications such as video editing, in reasonable proportions however. The 8 GB RAM ensures comfortable and smooth multitasking.
From its configuration also stands out the storage which offers all the space you may need, while ensuring system responsiveness. On the one hand, the dedicated 256 GB SSD (NVMe PCIe) is responsible for accommodating the operating system and all programs and games and contributing to a more responsive execution, shortened loading times and an overall more lively environment. On the other hand, the 1TB hard drive will provide a large capacity to archive a large amount of data in addition.
In the absence of a dedicated graphics card inside this ultrabook, the Intel UHD 620 chip integrated into the processor is the only one to take care of the processing. It is estimated at the level of a GeForce MX110, which should allow some casual players to launch some undemanding titles in Full HD with a decent fluidity.
Finally, autonomy is not really the strong point of our VivoBook S712FA-BX654T even if its design leaves one dreaming of a little mobility. Its small battery does not offer much more than 4 to 5 hours of autonomy in Internet browsing with active Wifi.
