The aesthetics of the Asus VivoBook X542UR-GO453T is noted for its entry with its flashy red color affixed to the back of the lid and inside, around the keyboard. This smooth surface is flush with screen borders and a black exterior surface with rough plastic but the snug fit ensures good perceived quality.
We have already seen 15 inches more compact. With its 23 mm thickness and 2.15 kilos on the scale, it remains in the middle of its class but does not really encourage travel. The absence of backlit keyboard either.
In terms of performance, the Asus VivoBook X542UR-GO453T is intended for office use / multimedia with the support of a Core i3 Kaby Lake and 8 GB of RAM . This duo is perfectly comfortable with the daily tasks (surfing the Internet, Office pack, video playback) and can even get by with a little photo editing. In addition, the RAM is in sufficient quantity to ensure a good level of multitasking , enough to satisfy the collectors of tabs on the browser.
Opposite, the graphic part is entrusted to an entry-level solution, the GeForce 930MX . Its mission is to support the processor in the processing of certain tasks where the integrated HD 620 chip is not enough (game, video processing). Moreover, if it is not at all armed for the demanding players, it will still be able to launch the majority of the games of the market in HD (1366 x 768 pixels), with adaptations on the level of details under the demanding opuses and taking into account the “weakness” of the processor.
Storage is provided by a hard drive of 1000 GB . No SSD dedicated to the program therefore, which deprives the system of a very valuable part of reactivity nowadays. Nevertheless, the capacity is generous thanks to the hard disk and allows to house a well supplied toy library. Users who have not yet had the opportunity to work on a machine incorporating a SSD can perfectly be satisfied. In the opposite case, the “backtracking” should be difficult. Namely that an M.2 slot is supposedly free if the need to add an SSD (SATA3) is felt (no maintenance hatch).
Same basic observation for the screen with its definition HD (1600 x 900 px), the brilliant treatment and the support of a TN slab. As a result, viewing angles will be limited, colors not respected and reflections may interfere with the visibility on the screen in strong ambient light. On the other hand, the brilliant slab is appreciated for its esthetic rendering and its bright colors.
Finally, the connection ensures a correct level with an SD card reader, a DVD burner, an HDMI output, a VGA port and four USB ports including two USB 3.0 and a versatile USB 3.1 Type-C (audio, video, data, charge). For data exchange, it includes Gigabit Ethernet and wireless modules Wifi AC and Bluetooth 4.1.
