Chassis, connectors, screen of the Asus X409FA-BV412T
Its light silver frame gives it an elegant and discreet look.
This computer is well equipped in terms of connectivity. There is indeed integrated an HDMI video output useful for easily connecting this PC to a TV or a monitor for example, 1 USB 3.1 Type-C, Wi-Fi ac and Bluetooth 4.1 wireless modules for remote connections and communications , an audio port and 2 USB compatible USB 2.0 and USB 3.0, USB 3.0 ensuring transfers up to 10 times faster than USB 2.0 if you connect a USB 3.0 device.
In terms of display, Asus chooses a screen whose anti-reflective treatment has the advantage of ensuring better visibility in a bright environment (ex: outdoor) than a shiny panel and being less tiring for the eyes over a long period.
With its definition of 1366×768 and its 16: 9 format suitable for playing videos, the screen adopts classic characteristics.
Performance, autonomy of the Asus X409FA-BV412T
The Asus X409FA-BV412T is a responsive and lightweight laptop for everyday use.
In this area, as in office automation and surfing on the Internet, as well as in multitasking not too advanced, this thin and light PC provides very correct services. It is indeed built around a low consumption Pentium Gold Dual Core 5405U Whiskey Lake processor and 4 GB of standard RAM.
It is possible to be more comfortable in multitasking under this PC by adding an adequate DDR4 module on the free slot. But keep in mind that this computer shows its limits under software demanding in terms of processor resources, which manifests itself in slowdowns.
The integrated SSD storage is therefore all the more welcome as it supports the heart of this computer very well on a daily basis. The SSD indeed guarantees a much better fluidity and reactivity than a hard disk, which implies in particular launches of applications but also much faster starts / stops.
An SSD is indeed much faster than a hard drive but also more energy efficient, more robust and quieter. If the capacity of the on-board SSD is lower than the standard for hard disks, 256 GB is sufficient for a number of uses.
However, if this proves to be too fair, we can rely on an external storage unit. Opting for a USB 3.0 device then represents an interesting solution to take advantage of fast transfers.
Here, no dedicated graphics card is present, which is expected at this price level. If this computer is not designed for gaming and more generally heavy graphics processing, it nevertheless allows of course to view photos and videos thanks to the (modest) benefits of the Intel UHD 610 solution integrated into Whiskey Lake.
As for the autonomy of this PC which is certainly not an Ultrabook but whose transport is facilitated by the weight less than 2 Kg, count on approximately 5 hours of operation on battery in light use.
