Chassis, connectors, screen of the Asus VivoBook X712DA-BX200T
Asus installs its Asus X712DA-BX200T in a compacted chassis, looking big 15 inches. On the front of the stage, its compact 406 x 253 mm format and its beautiful 21 mm thinness which guides it towards a little mobility. Then, the aesthetic opts for an elegant sober and smooth silver over the entire shell, except around the keyboard with an embossed effect, and drawn edges. The assembly is correct even if the plastic predominates and the clean silhouette of the PC is welcome.
Around the screen, Asus has sought to slightly refine the borders but without being borderless, which does not detract from the charm of the ultrabook. We discover a screen with basic specifications: a standard definition (1600 x 900 px) and the support of a TN panel leading to narrow viewing angles. Good point, however, the anti-reflective treatment will prevent glare situations in a bright environment.
Well distributed, the connections bring together most of the interfaces currently expected at this level of the range. There is an HDMI output, a microSD card reader and three USB Type-A ports, two of which are still limited by the 2.0 standard. A USB Type-C is also part of the game as well as the AC Wifi and Bluetooth 4.1 modules. No fingerprint reader is planned on the other hand.
Performance, battery life of the Asus VivoBook X712DA-BX200T
Storage is the centerpiece here. It is entrusted to a 512 GB SSD which will significantly enhance the overall responsiveness of the system on a daily basis compared to a configuration with a mechanical hard drive. Indeed, the SSD ensures shortened loading times, an almost instantaneous launch of Windows and very fast file copies, not to mention the qualities in terms of energy savings, durability and silence of the SSD. Not to spoil anything, its capacity is not ridiculous and can accommodate a good part of your game library.
At the heart of the laptop, we are dealing with a low-power AMD Athlon Silver 3050U APU presented at the same time as the Ryzen 4000 series at the start of 2020. This small processor delivers sufficient performance to run all common tasks (surfing the Internet, office tools, video playback) as well as minimal editing.
Good point, the 8 GB RAM ensures comfortable and smooth multitasking.
The AMD Radeon Vega 2 chipset integrated into the processor will take care of the graphics rendering, enough to support current use without the possibility of playing except facebook games.
Finally, the battery life should painfully flirt with the 5 hours of Internet browsing with active Wifi, it is in the low average.
