Asus unveils on September 2 its new line of Zenbook, the manufacturer’s high-end consumer series. Favoring more than ever the field of mobility, he took the opportunity to revive his Zenbook Pro 15, a time forgotten in favor of the Zenbook Pro Duo 15 incorporating a second ScreenPad Plus screen. On the program, performance (Core i7 10th gen 45W, GTX 1650 Ti), mobility (1.8 kg, 17.8 mm, 96Whr battery) and a screen worthy of the name for image professionals (OLED 4K DCI-P3 touch). And Asus does not forget its little excluded with its ScreenPad enriched this year with a ScreenXpert 2.0 interface
New without really being, the Asus Zenbook Pro 15 UX535 therefore takes the plastic identity of the Zenbook UX534 and the vigor of the Zenbook Pro UX580 in a clever balance combining power and finesse and the reinforcement of a sophisticated cooling system.
The Taiwanese company’s message is clear. The ultrabook is there to offer a mobile solution to creatives but also to fill a void in the series and to appeal to “users who are looking for a PC as powerful as the Pro Duo without the ScreenPad Plus” according to Asus.
Forged in aluminum , the Zenbook Pro 15 UX535 takes up the design seen on the Asus Zenbook 14 UX425 / UM425 and Zenbook 13 UX325, released in recent months. Sobriety is the order of the day with a uniform gray color throughout the frame but brought to life by several finishing details, including the legendary circular pattern on the back of the cover. Zenbook Pro 15 meets the MIL-STD 810G ruggedness standard.
Always on the design side, Asus always opts for its ErgoLift hinge which raises the keyboard when opening the screen and for its borderless NanoEdge screen that it slims on the sides (4 mm).
The weight is set around 1.8 kg , which is rather light for its technical sheet, and its format is particularly compact (354 x 233 x 17.8 mm ). Taking it on the go will never be a problem with this figure.
Let’s talk about performance now. The Asus Zenbook Pro 15 is available in two versions: the Pro 15 UX535LH equipped with a GeForce GTX 1650 (4 GB GDDR6) and the Pro 15 UX535LI linked to the GeForce GTX 1650 Ti (4 GB GDDR6). These two latest-generation Turing (2019) graphics cards are more than enough for versatility, bearing in mind that most creative software (3D, architect, videographer) is simply not able to take advantage of a more powerful GPU.
What matters most to creatives is processing and computing speed, tasks that depend on the processor. Asus opts for an Intel Core i7-10750H (2.6 Ghz / 5 Ghz) Hexa Core or Intel Core i5-10300H (2.5 Ghz / 4.5 Ghz) Quad Core. Optionally , it is associated with up to 1 TB PCIe 3.0 x4 NVMe SSD with the possibility of supporting an Intel Optane H10 module and up to 1 TB SATA 6Gbps HDD and for RAM, up to \’at 16 GB 2933 MHz DDR4 . Namely that the RAM is soldered to the motherboard and therefore not scalable. In this context, it is a real shame that Asus does not offer an option with more RAM …
In terms of display, the Asus Zenbook Pro UX535 has a 15.6-inch IPS Full HD (1920 x 1080 px; 100% sRGB) or OLED 4K touch screen (3840 x 2160 px; 100% DCI-P3; 450 nits). ) with Pantone certification.
The connection brings together the essential with a microSD reader, an HDMI 2.0 video output, Wi-Fi ax (2×2) and Bluetooth 5.0 wireless modules, a headphone / microphone combo port but above all a USB 3.2 Gen 2 port and a port USB 3.1 Type-C Gen 2 Thunderbolt 3 compatible . Small disappointment, however, due to the lack of charging via USB-C. An infrared webcam slipped above the screen provides Windows Hello authentication by facial recognition, enriched with a new algorithm for better video quality.
For its part, the keyboard is stretched to occupy more space in width and thus stick to the standard dimensions of keys and spacing, like a desktop keyboard. It is backlit and enriched with a row of specific function keys with a wide travel (1.35 mm).
Finally, Asus couldn’t release a new Zenbook without adding its famous ScreenPad . On the Zenbook Pro 15, this small 5.65-inch touchscreen only equips the UX535LI models (with GTX 1650 Ti) and takes the place of the touchpad, where the Zenbook Pro Duo’s ScreenPad Plus occupied the entire upper part of the base. . Here, the ScreenPad benefits from the ScreenXpert 2.0 interface which now offers a more intuitive user interface as well as numerous shortcut functions, allowing quick access to a variety of applications (Control Center, Task Group, etc.)
A final word about the battery that equips the Zenbook Pro 15 UX535. There are two of them. A 64Whr lithium-polymer battery on versions with GTX 1650 and another 96 Whr lithium-polymer on versions with GTX 1650 Ti. Asus has not communicated any notion of autonomy for the moment.
The Asus ZenBook Pro 15 UX535 will be available from € 1,799 .
