The HP Envy 17-cg1000nf is a sleek new slim silver all-round laptop PC with 17-inch IPS Full HD anti-glare display. It embeds an NVIDIA GeForce MX450 Turing graphics card that allows you to run games that are not too greedy like the Intel Iris Xe solution integrated into the Tiger Lake Quad Core i5 processor which delivers good performance. The responsiveness of this computer is enhanced by the fast SSD storage. There is also a shutter for the webcam, a backlit chiclet keyboard, a biometric reader as well as a Wi-Fi ax and USB 3.1 Type-C connection, but no Thunderbolt.

Chassis, connectors, screen of the HP Envy 17-cg1000nf
Thin and elegant with its natural silver frame with anodized and sandblasted finish, this laptop computer rechargeable 50% in 45 minutes has an elegant and discreet design.
This PC is well equipped in terms of connectivity with its wireless Bluetooth 5.0 and Wi-Fi ax modules ( more recent and efficient than Wi-Fi ac ) to communicate and connect remotely wirelessly, its practical HDMI video output to easily connect it to a TV for example, its audio and Ethernet ports, its USB 3.1 Type-C as well as its 3 USB 3.0 (USB 2.0 compatible) guaranteeing transfers up to 10 times faster than USB 2.0 if the \’USB 3.0 peripherals are connected to it.
Too bad, however, that HP does not use the native Thunderbolt 4 support offered by the Tiger Lake processor here to integrate this connection …
The webcam can be closed to respect privacy as much as possible, while the biometric reader allows authentication on the system by fingerprint recognition via Windows Hello technology.
The chiclet keyboard is of course adorned with a very practical backlighting system for the keys to distinguish them in the event of limited ambient light.
With its 100% sRGB and IPS characteristics, the screen displays colors more faithful than the average as well as important viewing angles, both horizontally and vertically. It is also very well suited to videos and more generally to High Definition content because it adopts a 16: 9 format and a precise Full HD definition. The brilliant treatment of the screen revives the colors but is subject to reflections in a bright environment (eg outside).
Performance, battery life of the HP Envy 17-cg1000nf
The HP Envy 17-cg1000nf is a sleek, relatively thin, large-format laptop designed for versatile use on the go.
Whether it is with the Intel Iris Xe graphics part housed within the processor or the dedicated GeForce MX450 NVIDIA Turing card, it is of course possible to view photos and videos on this computer which benefits from NVIDIA Optimus technology.
In practice, Optimus switches automatically and in real time between the Intel Iris Xe and the GeForce MX450, as needed. The Intel Iris Xe is preferred as far as possible despite its modest performance because it consumes little energy which favors autonomy compared to the GeForce MX450.
As we showed in our Intel Iris Xe test , this solution is significantly more efficient than the classic Intel UHD 620 and is able to run games that are not too demanding.
More powerful and greedy than the Intel Iris Xe, the GeForce MX450 (which would be a little less powerful than the GeForce GTX 1650 Max-Q) is able to support a number of games if we agree to make concessions under the titles greedy in graphic resources to obtain a good playability.
At the heart of this laptop sits 8 GB of RAM accompanied by a low-power Tiger Lake i5-1135G7 Quad Core processor, enough to achieve good overall performance that can satisfy many users.
That being said, to often carry out work requiring processor resources, it is better to turn to a PC with a non-low power processor.
On the storage side, HP here chooses an SSD which clearly reinforces daily responsiveness compared to a simple hard drive. This implies much faster starts / stops, treatments and launches of applications / games or even a faster arrival on the maps of online games.
An SSD is indeed much faster than a hard drive while being more robust, more energy efficient and silent. Here the onboard SSD offers a capacity of 512 GB, which corresponds to the standard of hard disks.
If you need additional space, you can obviously use an external storage unit such as a USB 3.0 / USB-C device to benefit from fast transfers.
As for autonomy, expect about 6 hours of battery operation in light use for this relatively thin PC for a 17 inches but whose weight close to 3 kg clearly does not facilitate transport. It must be said that its large format is particularly comfortable for predominantly sedentary use (eg at home).
