Chassis, connectivity, screen of the HP Omen 15-en0022nf
For this Omen 15 2020, HP is clearly committed to its turn for a consensual design started with the Omen 15-dh of last year. The HP Omen 15-ek0073nf seeks to blur the lines between gaming PC and consumer PC with its smooth matte black case with a geometric but sober silhouette and whose flashy elements have almost all disappeared. Only the new Omen logo, a colorful diamond that replaces the red Voodoo logo, takes place on the cover. Inside, the neutral side also predominates with a shiny code on the right, a small detail which nevertheless marks the Omen\’s membership in the world of players.
Still in a desire for sobriety, the two hinges are now spaced under the cover and the overall silhouette is homogenized compared to its predecessor. In addition, the frame is made entirely of metal for more robustness during handling and movement and better longevity of surfaces.
The measurements are also reviewed, but not necessarily in the direction that we believe. Indeed, the trend which sought finesse and compactness at all costs seems to be changing course in the gaming world. We can thus observe in several manufacturers a small step back on this point with PC 2020 significantly thicker than their successor in order to serve the performances before thinking of the nomadic side. HP made the same calculation since the beautiful fineness (20 mm) of the 15-dh gave way to a thickness of 22.5 mm , still well optimized that said. Format side, HP succeeds in compacting its gaming PC on the depth thanks to the new hinge design in particular, passing 359 x 239 mm (against 360 x 260 on the 15-dh). The weight also gains on this generation with 2.37kg on the scale.
The keyboard offers on this model a red backlight on 1 Dragon Red zone (do not rely on the visuals). In addition, we observe that HP has removed the numeric keypad to position function keys and directional arrows, very comfortable with the empty space around. HP has also equipped its keyboard with NKRO technology for a full rollover on 26 keys which allows a variety of combinations without limit.
When you open the PC, you discover a fairly basic 15.6-inch screen. Its Full HD definition (1920 x 1080 pixels) with high display density allows you to view your High Definition content in the best conditions (YouTube videos in 1080p) but also to modulate the positioning of the windows without losing sharpness. The IPS technology is welcomed with viewing angles and colors faithful while the matte treatment will be barrier inconveniences associated with the use in bright environments. Good point, the screen is associated with Adaptive Sync technology (FreeSync) which ensures direct synchronization between the screen and the graphics card and thus avoid any latency or micro-stuttering effect in the action.
The connection is present in number and do not forget the small novelties, in particular the Thunderbolt 3 port (USB-C Gen2). You also benefit from Wifi 6 802.11 AX and Bluetooth 5.0 as well as Gigabit Ethernet with “Network Booster Dual Force” technology to give priority to games. For the rest, there is an SD card reader, a mini-DisplayPort, an HDMI output as well as four USB 3.2 ports.
Performance, battery life of the HP Omen 15-en0022nf
This HP Omen 15-en0022nf is powered by an AMD Ryzen 5 4600H Hexa Core Renoir (2020). Its performance is worth talking about since the processor delivers enough to satisfy the most demanding of you with capacities similar to those of an Intel Core i7-10750H. In fact, tasks capable of using the 6 cores, such as certain content creation, 3D modeling or video editing software, will find good working support here. In addition, the 16 GB of RAM ensure comfortable multitasking and allow you to look forward to the next few years with serenity.
To serve the game, the Turing GeForce GTX 1660 Ti graphics card is of a good standard to meet almost all gamers, except the most demanding who will seek the highest rate of framerates. Namely that it only supports Ray-Tracing in small proportions but is quite capable of competing against intensive players and ensuring optimal frequencies in 1080p High on all AAA games with a total of FPS which exceeds 60. Support for creatives is also valuable with its 6 GB GDDR6 VRAM .
Storage is another strength in this laptop since it is entrusted to a 512 GB NVMe PCIe SSD which will significantly enhance the overall responsiveness of the system on a daily basis. Overall quieter, more robust and more energy efficient than a mechanical disk, it allows Windows to achieve a remarkable level of fluidity with short loading times and a performance without latencies. What\’s more, its capacity is nothing short of ridiculous and can accommodate a good portion of your game library even if some may not find it sufficient.
Finally, thanks to its decent capacity battery (70.9 Whr, 6 cell), the HP Omen 15-en0022nf should go the distance for about 5 to 6 hours in current use. It is in the good average.
