Chassis, connectors, screen of the HP Omen 15-in1026nf
For this Omen 15 2020, HP is clearly committed to its shift to a consensual design started with last year’s Omen 15-dh. The HP Omen 15-en1026nf seeks to blur the lines between gaming PC and consumer PC with its smooth matte black case with a geometric but sober silhouette and whose flashy elements have almost all disappeared. Only the new Omen logo, a colorful diamond that replaces the red Voodoo logo, takes place on the lid. Inside, the neutral side also predominates with a brilliant code on the right, a small detail that still marks the omen’s belonging to the world of players.
Always in a desire for sobriety, the two hinges are now spaced under the lid and the overall silhouette is homogenized compared to its predecessor. In addition, the chassis is composed entirely of metal for more robustness during handling and movement and better longevity of surfaces.
The measurements are also reviewed, but not necessarily in the sense that we believe. Indeed, the trend that sought finesse and compactness at all costs seems to be changing course in the gaming world. We thus observe in several manufacturers a small step back on this point with 2020 PCs significantly thicker than their successor in order to serve the performance before thinking about the nomadic side. HP has made the same calculation since the beautiful finesse (20 mm) of the 15-dh has given way to a thickness of 22.5 mm,still well optimized that said. On the format side, HP manages to compact its gaming PC on the depth thanks to the new hinge design in particular, going to 359 x 239 mm (against 360 x 260 on the 15-dh). The weight also wins on this generation with 2.37 kg on the scale.
The keyboard offers on this model a white backlight on 1 zone, which is rather limited for the category. In addition, we observe that HP has removed the numeric keypad to position function keys and direction arrows, very comfortable with the empty space around. HP has also equipped its keyboard with NKRO technology for a full rollover on 26 keys that allows a variety of combinations without limit.
At the opening of the PC, we discover a perennial 15.6-inch screen that takes advantage of a refresh frequency of 144Hz to get into the action without delay. Its Full HD definition (1920 x 1080 pixels) with high display density makes it possible to view your content in High Definition in the best conditions (YouTube videos in 1080p) but also to modulate the positioning of the windows without losing sharpness. IpS technology is welcome with its viewing angles and faithful colors while the matte treatment will be a barrier to the inconveniences associated with use in bright environments. Good point, the screen is associated with Adaptive Sync technology (FreeSync) which ensures direct synchronization between the screen and the graphics card and thus avoid any latency or micro-stuttering effect in the action.
The connectivity is present in number but forgets the Thunderbolt 3 port (USB-C Gen2) on this model. There is an SD card reader, a mini-DisplayPort, an HDMI 2.0 output as well as three USB 3.2 ports and a USB 3.2 Type-C (Gen1) port. You also benefit from Wifi 6 802.11 AX and Bluetooth 5.0 as well as Gigabit Ethernet with “Network Booster Dual Force” technology to give priority to games.
Performance, battery life of the HP Omen 15-in1026nf
Inside the PC, there is a GeForce RTX 3060 generation Ampere (2021). This is a high-end GPU capable of meeting the needs of demanding gamers, surpassing the capabilities of a GeForce RTX 2070 (Super) Turing. It offers a smooth rendering on all the user’s favorite games, taking advantage of Ray-Tracing on games compatible with advanced details and a respectable fps number. The RTX 3060 is also valuable for software that harnesses GPU computing power in accelerating processing. This is for example the case in multimedia under Sony Vegas or Adobe Première/Photoshop, which will interest creators, especially with 6 GB GDDR6 of dedicated memory.
Opposite, we have a strong processor, the AMD Ryzen 7 5800H Octo Core Cezanne (2021) whose performance is already talking about them. Indeed, it delivers enough to satisfy the most demanding of you with capabilities close to those of an Intel Core i9-9880H Octo Core and in any case much higher than those of an Intel Hexa Core (i7-10750H). In fact, tasks capable of exploiting the 8 cores such as some content creation software, 3D modeling or video editing, will find here the perfect working support.
In support, the 16GB of RAM ensures smooth multitasking for gaming and everyday use. It is possible to scale the RAM up to 32 GB.
For its part, the storage is entrusted to a 512 GB PCIe NVMe SSD that will significantly strengthen the overall responsiveness of the system on a daily basis. Overall quieter, more robust, and more energy-efficient than a mechanical disk, it allows Windows to achieve a remarkable level of fluidity with short load times and latency-free execution. What’s more, its capacity is not ridiculous and can host a good part of your toy library even if some will not find it enough. In this case, you can perfectly open the PC and scale the components. A 2.5-inch bay is logically free inside.
Finally, thanks to its honest capacity battery (70.9 Whr, 6 cell), the HP Omen 15-en1026nf should hold the distance for about 6 hours in common use. It is in the right average.
