Behind an aesthetic tinged with matte black, the hull of the Pavilion Power 15-cb017nf resumes the structure of the Pavilion 15-cc with its original hinge system that raises the base when opening the lid. The black look “Shadow” is intentionally more racy but avoids the flashy details of gaming machines. Instead, the PC plays on discrete finishes to stand out: the lid is smooth and matte, the frame of the screen sports fine diagonal stripes while the turn of the keyboard is embellished with a brushed effect that does not lack elegance. Namely that the cover and the inside of the base are made of aluminum for more robustness. In addition, HP dressed chiclet keys with white outlines on the height, of the same hue.
Its battery of imposing capacity (70Whr) allows the PC to keep about 7 hours away from a power outlet before surrender. This is particularly satisfying for its segment and this level of performance.
The PC does not lack resources for everyday use. Indeed, its processor was the most powerful installed on a laptop before the arrival of the generation Coffee Lake. The Quad Core i7-7700HQaided by 8 GB of RAM is able to support all kinds of missions, most basic (Web browsing, video playback) to more experienced (3D modeling, video editing). You also enjoy a good fluidity in multitasking whatever the exploitation invoked. Note that HP PCs are known not to offer easy maintenance.
The storage part is for its part entrusted to a hybrid solution in favor of responsiveness without compromising capacity. The dedicated 128 GB SSD will be able to host the operating system, programs and some games and thus contribute to the most responsive execution, shortened download times and an overall brighter environment. The hard drive of 1000 GB (7200 rpm) in addition is there to archive all of your toy library or to store heavy games.
Opening on the versatility and the game, the graphic part is entrusted to the GTX 1050 Pascal (4 GB). It can be measured against casual / demanding players and ensure honorable frequencies in Full HD on a good part of the market. More powerful than 20% compared to a GTX 960M, it remains a little weak in “Ultra” on the last outputs and is not part of the cards that support the virtual reality unlike the GTX 1060 and beyond.
Now legion at HP on their mid / high-end PCs, the full HD IPS matte display is a pleasure to see. You enjoy a consistent image with rich colors regardless of your position in front of the screen and a high display density with Full HD (1920 x 1080 px). This definition allows you to fully enjoy your High Definition content and to modulate the positioning of windows without losing legibility. In addition, the matte treatment plays a decisive role if you are installed in a very bright environment, was a barrier to glare.
Finally, the connection may seem a bit limited for a PC game but it is correct for any other use. There is a valuable USB Type-C port (up to 5 Gbps, DP 1.2, HP Boost), an HDMI output, an SD card reader and three other USB 3.1 ports. The connectivity modules are always favored with the presence of a Gigabit Ethernet port and recent Wi-Fi AC and Bluetooth 4.2 chips.
