The MSI GP63 8RE-248 exudes robustness with a polycarbonate case and structured black aluminum alloy that totals a reasonable weight of 2.2 kg . Its design is sober in appearance and more intense when one is interested in details: two red accents underline the edges on the back of the lid and a red border surrounds the base completely. Inside, we discover a Steel Series keyboard with multicolored backlighting that shows through the full height of the keys (Silver Lining Printing).
MSI always relies heavily on its many integrated technologies that will enrich the gaming experience. It includes the Dragon Center 2.0 application that manages the performance of the PC through different profiles of use, the MatrixDisplay system to extend the external two-screen display or the arrival of Cooler Boost 5 which will automatically adjust the speed of the two integrated “Whrilwind Blade” fans and 7 heat pipes. The sound is entrusted to two speakers expanded 3W and Nahimic 3.
MSI pulls out the muscles with its powerful heart based on a Hexa Core i7 Coffee Lake. Never short of resources whatever the mission invoked, it is based on 6 logical cores (against 4 for the i7-7700HQ) allowing it to confront all missions possible and imaginable, until the most 3D rendering. The 8 GB of RAM that support it is the minimum required to navigate smoothly between tasks and ensure a good level of multitasking . A slight gain can also be observed in terms of game quality but this part depends mainly on the graphics card.
Cut for the game, it also has a high-class build. The GeForce GTX 1060 in its configuration with 6 GB GDDR5 is a credit to all the titles in the market in Full HD with High / Ultra details and can be compared to the 4K, provided to be content with low-demanding titles. Virtual reality is also in its strings.
To support the system, MSI chose to integrate a hybrid storage solution with its PC. This includes a dedicated 256 GB SSD and a 1 TB hard drive . The first is intended to house the operating system and all programs and games while the second will take care of the storage of your toy library. This gives you a particularly responsive operation with a reduced response time compared to a solution with a single hard drive, while enjoying a very generous capacity.
On the screen side, MSI remains classic on this model. Exit the IPS technology and the refresh rate seems limited to 60 Hz. Moreover, its definition Full HD (1920 x 1080 px) provides a high display density and allows you to make the most of your content / game by High Definition and the matte slab prevents the ambient brightness from reflecting on the screen, improving the playing comfort (especially in dark scenes).
Finally, the connector inherits a welcome update. There is a multiformat card reader, two video outputs (HDMI 1.4, mini-DisplayPort) and four USB ports including three USB 3.1 (1 Gen2) and a USB 3.1 Type-C (Gen2) with support Thunderbolt 3 . You also benefit from the latest generation of WiFi 802.11 AC and Bluetooth 5.0 chipset and Gigabit Ethernet E2400 to give priority to the game.
