The MSI Modern 15 A10M-243FR is therefore part of an elegant and very compact office vision for nomads. Indeed, if the manufacturer is better known for its gaming machines, it has been able to occupy the highly disputed ultrabook market and offer powerful solutions in a quality case for ultra mobility. With a weight of 1.6 kg , it also benefits from a format (356 x 233 mm) and a finesse (15.9 mm) well optimized for traveling without being noticed.
The MSI Modern A10M-243FR takes place in a robust brushed aluminum chassis which adjoins the screen with a very thin frame (occupancy rate of 80% screen / box). Note that the case meets the military resistance standard MIL-STD-810G for rock solidity (extreme heat, shock, fall, humidity, altitude, exposure to the sun). Note also its white backlit keyboard on four levels which facilitates typing in the dark.
Another thing to know about the case, it opens rather easily and leaves access to the components that can be changed without too much difficulty. The two RAM slots are accessible as well as two M.2 bays for storage.
As the trend wants, MSI has chosen to surround the screen of its Modern 15 with thin borders while keeping the webcam in its usual place. The impression of immersion is important, especially since the IPS panel is bright and visible from all angles. As for the screen, the dense Full HD definition (1920 x 1080 px) allows viewing High Definition content in the best conditions and modulating the display. Another good point, it benefits from an anti- reflective treatment which brings its share of comfort on the move.
Let\’s finish the tour of the chassis with the connectors which, despite the compact format of the ultrabook, summons everything necessary in standard formats. There are no less than three USB 3.1 ports, a USB 3.2 Type-C port, an HDMI output, a microSD card reader, as well as a mini-jack combo jack. On the other hand, the webcam does not support Windows Hello facial recognition and it seems that MSI has removed the fingerprint reader from its 15 inch, therefore offering no biometric authentication option. Note that the wireless modules are entrusted to Wifi AC and Bluetooth 5.0. We expected more WiFi 802.11 AX on this new range, too bad.
Performance, autonomy of the MSI Modern 15 A10M-243FR
The recent processor Core i3-10110U Dual Core low consumption is the engine of the MSI Modern 15 A10M-243FR. We are not at the level of a Quad Core but the CPU still benefits from a Turbo Boost (4.1 Ghz), enough to significantly exceed the current spectrum. In fact, it provides perfect support for everyday use (web browsing, Office processing, video) and a little mastery in slightly more demanding applications such as video editing, in reasonable proportions, however. The 8 GB RAM ensures comfortable and smooth multitasking.
From its configuration also emerges the storage which gives pride of place to reactivity. Indeed, a dedicated SSD of 256 GB is in the game, allowing to bring its share of fluidity to Windows 10 and to the overall execution of the programs while not sacrificing too much capacity. If you count the space occupied by the system and by the programs, there is approximately 200 GB of free space, enough to accommodate a small part of your toy library. For the rest, you will have to opt for an external or online solution or open the PC whose scalability is facilitated by the presence of two M.2 ports .
In the absence of a dedicated graphics card inside this ultrabook, the Intel UHD 620 chip integrated into the processor is the only one to handle the processing. It is estimated at the level of a GeForce MX110, which should allow some casual players to launch some undemanding titles in Full HD with correct fluidity.
A word about autonomy now. The 52Whr battery installed in the Modern 15 A10M is logically capable of providing 8 to 9 hours of autonomy in web browsing via Wifi, enough to work serenely for a day (without stressing the CPU or the iGPU).
