Chassis, connectors, screen of the MSI Prestige 15 A10SC-215XFR
Change of name and scope for the Prestige range. Formerly known as MSI PS42 in 14 inches, the Prestige 15 A10SC-215XFR is gaining ground and is now part of a more versatile vision, while keeping the elegance and very compact format of the range. Indeed, if the manufacturer is better known for its gaming machines, it has been able to occupy this highly disputed market and offer powerful solutions in a quality case designed for ultra mobility. With a weight of 1.6 kg , it is considered light in its class with 15.9 mm thickness .
The MSI Prestige 15 A10SC-215XFR takes place in a gray metal chassis with a soft texture underlined on the edges by a shiny blue border (diamond). The screen adjoins the edges with a very thin frame (occupancy rate of 90% screen / box) and opens flat (angle of 180 degrees) for more modularity on the move. Note that the case meets the military resistance standard MIL-STD-810G for rock solidity (extreme heat, shock, fall, humidity, altitude, exposure to the sun). Note also its white backlit keyboard on four levels which facilitates typing in the dark and the comfortable 5 degree tilt.
As is the trend, MSI has chosen to surround the screen of its Prestige 15 with very fine borders. The impression of immersion is important, especially since the IPS panel is bright and visible from all angles. Good point, MSI has kept the standard positioning of the webcam unlike its Modern range. As for the screen, the dense Full HD definition (1920 x 1080 px) allows viewing High Definition content in the best conditions and modulating the display. Another good point, it benefits from an anti- reflective treatmentwhich brings its share of comfort on the move. MSI also claims that the colorimetric cover of the slab is close to 100% on the sRGB spectrum with an optimized factory calibration and a Delta E less than 2, important data for creatives who need a rendering at l screen of the most faithful for their work.
Let’s finish the chassis tour with the state-of-the-art connectors. Alongside two USB 3.2 Gen2 ports, there are two USB Type-C Gen2 ports with Thunderbolt 3 support , a plus for versatility. There is also a microSD card reader and a mini-jack combo jack. Some will therefore regret the absence of an HDMI port (available via USB-C). The Prestige 15 has also focused on security by allowing you to connect easily and quickly using Windows Hello either by facial recognition or via the fingerprint reader. Note that the wireless modules are entrusted to the latest Wi-Fi 802.11 AX and Bluetooth 5.0.
Performance, autonomy of the MSI Prestige 15 A10SC-215XFR
The element that arouses the most interest (and questioning) inside this MSI Prestige is the 10th generation Hexa Core i7 low consumption processor , the Core i7-10710U. Our ultrabook is indeed one of the first PCs on the French market to integrate this 6-core processor, to say the least. We obviously lack hindsight but according to the first cross tests on the canvas, it would seem that the gain is significant compared to the last Quad Core low consumption (i7-10510U / i7-1065G7), especially when running programs taking advantage of all hearts like editing software, 3D, etc. On this terrain, it is almost 50% more powerful than its two companions.
It is thus close to a Hexa Core-H, the benchmark in the versatile sector, but with the limitations attributed to low consumption (frequency and TDP limited). Anyway, it would seem that there is a solid option to work on a mobile machine without collecting excessive heat, a noticeable noise or reduced autonomy, three complaints often criticized by ultrabooks with -H processors currently. Note that the processor is assisted by 8 GB of RAM here, a total sufficient to navigate and work flexibly.
The front of the stage is also occupied mainly by the storage, entrusted to a dedicated SSD of 512 GB (NVMe PCIe) which will blow a wind of reactivity on the system. Overall quieter, durable and energy efficient than a mechanical disk, it allows Windows to reach a remarkable level of fluidity with short loading times and execution without latencies. To not spoil anything, its capacity is comfortable for an SSD and can store most of your video files.
Inside this MSI Prestige 15 A10SC-215XFR, we note of course the latest generation graphics card Turing GeForce GTX 1650 Max-Q . It is a large solution for a compact 15 inch. Unlike the latest RTX 20 series, the GTX 1650 in Max-Q design balances with the capabilities of a GeForce GTX 1050 Ti. In fact, it is notably capable of competing with occasional players for a few quality games, but it is above all aimed at creatives who will find in it the ideal support for making their creativity speak.
We do not yet know the energy efficiency of the Hexa Core processor, but since it is a low-consumption CPU, it should not weigh too heavily on the 82Whr battery installed in the Prestige 15 A10SC. In fact, we can expect a comfortable total of 10 hours of autonomy in web browsing via Wifi.
Finally, note that this ultrabook is supplied with FreeDos, a utility that does not allow optimal use of all of its capabilities. It will therefore be necessary to install a complete operating system such as Linux or Windows to benefit from a perfectly functional environment.
