Chassis, connectors, screen of Lenovo IdeaPad 3 14ADA05 (81W00024FR)
Lenovo rethinks its range in 2020 and presents in its S series the Lenovo IdeaPad 3 14ADA05 (81W00024FR) which is none other than the successor of the Ideapad S145-14IIL, the entry level office automation offered by the brand. Very simple if not basic in terms of design, its chassis favors sobriety with an entirely gray shell with a few textured effects that give the PC a touch of pleasure. The whole is very clean and compact, which shows through the screen and its fairly thin side borders.
In order to enter the ultrabook segment, the IdeaPad 3 inherits a rather refined silhouette (19.9 mm) at a weight that is not against a few movements (1.6 kg). Unsurprisingly, the keyboard is not backlit and the touchpad is clickable but the consensual design has the advantage of slipping into any environment and not being too noticed in your bag.
Around the screen, Lenovo has sought to slightly refine the borders but without being borderless, which does not detract from the charm of the PC. We discover a screen with basic specifications: a standard definition (1366 x 768 px) and the support of a TN panel leading to narrow viewing angles. Good point however, the anti-reflective treatment will prevent glare situations in a bright environment.
Now let’s talk about the connection which is satisfied with the minimum. On the program, an HDMI output, three USB ports, one of which is still limited to the 2.0 standard, and an SD card reader. No USB Type-C port or fingerprint reader provided. Note however that the wireless modules are recent (Wifi AC and Bluetooth 5.0), but not the latest (ax).
Performance, battery life of Lenovo IdeaPad 3 14ADA05 (81W00024FR)
Its configuration is essential especially the storage which gives pride of place to reactivity. Indeed, a dedicated 256 GB SSD is in the game, allowing to bring its share of fluidity to Windows 10 and to the overall execution of programs while not sacrificing too much capacity. If we count the space occupied by the system and by the programs, there is about 200 GB of free space, enough to house a small part of your game library. For the rest, you will have to opt for an external or online solution.
At the heart of the laptop, we are dealing with a recent AMD Athlon Silver 3050U low consumption APU presented at the same time as the Ryzen 4000 series at the start of 2020. This small processor delivers sufficient performance to run all common tasks (surfing the Internet , office tools, video playback) as well as minimal editing.
Good point, the 8 GB RAM ensures comfortable and smooth multitasking.
The AMD Radeon Vega 2 chipset integrated into the processor will take care of the graphics rendering, enough to support current use without the possibility of playing except facebook games.
Let’s finish with an idea of the battery life that must deal with a low capacity battery (35 Whr). However, the ultraportable should still be around 6 hours in light use (web browsing with wifi).
