Chassis, Connectivity, Display Lenovo IdeaPad L340-15API (81LW003DFR)
For this new generation and this name change: IdeaPad 330 becomes Ideapad L340, Lenovo wanted to slightly revisit the design of its 15-inch entry. Let’s insist on it slightly because the transformation is subtle. The color “Granite Black” is entirely black with an elegant brushed effect affixed to the back of the lid and around the keyboard. The cover is also covered with a metallic finish supposed to protect shocks. We finally observe that the Lenovo logo migrates on the edge of the cover and the base, like the latest Lenovo S530 for example.
The measurements have also evolved a little since our IdeaPad still wins 5 mm in length and a little deeper. The thickness is gaining there too but in more minute measures. Lenovo did not want to get into the current trend of fine and light boxes (2.2 kg here) and borderless screens. Note also that the keyboard is not backlit on this reference.
Inside, we open on a screen that deploys a Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) whose high display density offers all the latitude to view content in High Definition and to enjoy a perfectly clear image to the naked eye. At the same time, anti-reflective treatment will play its part of comfort to work in good conditions in a bright atmosphere but we are dealing with a TN panel. Expect narrow angles of approach and colorimetry that is not always very accurate.
To finish with the study of the case, the connector wins a USB Type-C port in addition to two USB 3.1 ports but loses the SD card reader, it’s curious. There is also a Gigabit Ethernet port, an HDMI output and wireless modules Wifi ac and Bluetooth 4.2. The keyboard has a keypad and the DVD player is not on the menu of this particular model.
Lenovo IdeaPad L340-15API Battery Life (81LW003DFR)
At its heart, the PC contains the latest AMD processor Quad Core Ryzen 5 3500U low power. This succeeds the Ryzen 5 2500U with a gain of more and less 10% in terms of power, what to come to a level close to a Quad Core i5-8265U. In fact, the current use is well supported and you can even tackle the missions of photo editing, video editing and light calculation without shaking too much. By cons, the small amount of RAM (4 GB) does not play in favor of multitasking, may cause some latency if you multiply applications and tabs.
The AMD Radeon Vega 8 chipset integrated in the processor will take care of the graphic rendering, namely that it holds the high drama to the Intel UHD 620 chip of Whiskey Lake GPUs. While the latter is similar to a GeForce 920MX in terms of performance, the Vega 8 will match a GeForce 940MX and allow a little game definition and average details (1600 x 900 px).
Then let’s look at storage. This is a hybrid solution consisting of a dedicated SSD of 128 GB and a hard drive of 1000 GB that will be decisive point of view reactivity. In principle, the SSD will be able to host the operating system and programs while the hard drive takes care of the storage of your toy library, thus ensuring effective overall performance, rapid turn-on / turn-off and copies of data to accelerated flows.
Finally, the small battery capacity (36 Whr) of this Lenovo IdeaPad L340-15API does not really encourage mobility. And for good reason, it will not be able to offer more than 5 hours of beat in Web browsing with active Wifi. Good point, Lenovo has equipped the PC with RapidCharge technology that allows to “recover 2 hours of autonomy in just 15 minutes charge”.
