Featuring a latest generation processor and a very subtly redesigned design, the new Lenovo IdeaPad S340-15IWL is a 15-inch ultrabook that has something to seduce. Aimed at office productivity enthusiasts, it installs in its black metal chassis a Core i5 quad and the need for RAM to surf with fluidity, not to mention its generous and fast hybrid storage (NVMe). In addition, its Full HD matte screen is fixed on a hinge of 180 degrees surrounded by fairly thin borders and its autonomy allows to see a whole day come. Too bad the keyboard is not backlit that the IPS panel is not on the menu of this reference.

Chassis, Connectivity, Lenovo Ideapad S340-15IWL Display (81N80055FR)
For this new generation and this name change: IdeaPad 330s becomes Ideapad S340, Lenovo wished to slightly revise the design of its 15-inch midrange. Let’s insist on it slightly because the transformation is subtle. Its design “Onyx Black” is almost identical if not the positioning of the logo that departs from the opposite of its position on the 330s. The chassis is always well assembled and robust, made of polished aluminum on most surfaces and plastic inside. This reference 81N80055FR is embellished with a black color of the most sober, perfectly uniform. It is also observed that the lid has edges a little more sharp.
At the format level, we see a little change. With 1.8 kg and 17.9 mm thickness , the ultrabook wins on all levels compared to its predecessor and will not be against a few displacements, especially as it takes advantage of an opening angle of the lid until 180 degrees (flat) for more modularity. Note that the keyboard is not backlit on this declination, it’s a pity.
We open on a 15-inch screen that deploys a Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) definition whose high display density offers all the latitude to view High Definition content and to benefit from a perfectly clear image at the same time. naked eye. On the other hand, we are not dealing with an IPS panel but with more basic TN, resulting in reduced angles of approach and an inconsistent colorimetry. It is detrimental in 2019 to this price level. For its part, anti-reflective treatment will play its part of comfort to work in good conditions in a bright atmosphere.
Good point, the webcam apparently benefits from a small flap “privacy shutter” to prevent any intrusion.
To finish with the case, the connection does not change and remains properly provided with two USB 3.1 standard size ports, a USB Type-C , an HDMI output, a multi-format SD card reader, a headphone jack and a Kensington lock . Recent versions of the Wifi AC and Bluetooth 4.2 modules are also on the menu while the RJ45 (Ethernet) port is excluded. No fingerprint reader either.
Lenovo Ideapad S340-15IWL Battery Life (81N80055FR)
Present in quantity, storage is there to promote system responsiveness without compromise. In fact, the 256 GB dedicated NVMe PCIe SSD will be able to accommodate the operating system and all programs and games and thus contribute to the most responsive execution, shortened download times and an overall brighter environment. The hard drive of 1000 GB in addition is there to allow you to archive all of your toy library.
Opposite, the Lenovo Ideapad S340-15IWL (81N80055FR) provides the right answer to benefit a wide range of users. And for good reason, it is based on a processor Quad Core i5-8265U low consumption last generation (9th). This is significantly more efficient than the Kaby Lake Refresh generation (i5-8250U) thanks to a higher Turbo Boost frequency (3.9 Ghz) and a finer engraving. In fact, Intel announces a gain of 10% on average which results in a perfect support of the current use (Web browsing, Office processing, video) and by a sharp mastery in the more greedy applications, requiring the architecture multicore (video editing, Photoshop pushed, light Lightroom …). With 8 GB of RAM behind, the system will not lose fluidity multitasking.
In the absence of a dedicated graphics card inside this ultrabook, the chip Intel UHD 620 integrated processor is alone to handle the treatment. It is estimated at a GeForce MX110, which should allow some casual players to launch some low-demanding titles in Full HD with great fluidity.
Let’s finish with a notion of autonomy that benefits from this declination of a 52.5 Whr battery. Without breaking records, it should allow around 8 hours in web browsing via Wifi. What’s more, Lenovo has equipped the PC with RapidCharge technology which allows “to recover 2 hours of autonomy in only 15 minutes in charge”.
