The Lenovo Legion Y540-15IRH (81SY00KJFR) is a high-performance 15-inch versatile laptop, oriented towards games and creation.
It is indeed equipped with the dedicated GeForce GTX 1650 NVIDIA Turing card. It can be used by software using GPU computing power to speed up multimedia processing (eg Adobe Premiere / Photoshop, Sony Vegas).
Of course, the GeForce GTX 1650 targets mainly players. It must be said that it is able to run very many games as long as we consent to settings under the most demanding opus graphics resources to get good playability.
NVIDIA Optimus embedded technology switches between the GeForce GTX 1650 and the Intel UHD 630 solution integrated into the processor, automatically depending on the tasks performed. Despite its very modest performance, the Intel UHD 630 is favored as much as possible by Optimus because it is energy efficient and therefore implies better autonomy. The GeForce GTX 1650 is therefore activated to perform graphic work deemed too heavy for the UHD 630, the 2 of course allowing you to watch photos and videos.
Architectured around an Intel HM370 chipset, the heart of this computer supports the GTX 1650 well in games and delivers solid general performance able to satisfy a maximum of users. It consists of 8 GB of RAM and a Quad Core i5-9300H Coffee Lake Refresh processor.
These components notably guarantee faster processing than a PC based on a low-consumption Quad Core processor. The difference is particularly noticeable in areas requiring CPU resources taking advantage of multicores, such as video editing, photo editing or 3D rendering.
Thanks to on-board SSD storage, responsiveness is essential in games and treatments and more generally in everyday life, much more than with a simple hard drive. The SSD also guarantees for example start / stop and launch of games / software much faster than a hard drive, and faster arrival on the cards of online games.
Remember that compared to a hard drive, an SSD is much faster but also more energy efficient, more shock resistant and quieter. Here, we find a 512 GB SSD on board, a capacity rivaling hard drives.
But if it’s too fair, we still have the option of adding a second SSD or hard drive via the free 2.5-inch slot.
You can also use an external storage unit like a USB 3.0 device for fast transfers.
As for autonomy, it is clearly not the strong point of this PC. You have to settle for about 3 hours of battery operation in light use for this PC, the noise of which is contained for this type of machine but which heats up when it is strongly pushed.
