A powerful and compact all-rounder, the MSI Prestige 15 A10SC-407FR is rather one of a kind. Armed with a low-consumption Hexa Core processor, 8 GB of memory and an honest capacity SSD storage (512 GB), the ultrabook puts all the odds in its favor to meet the needs of creative nomads. Indeed, this 15-inch ultrabook is elegant, robust, light (1.6 kg), borderless and comfortable with its screen that tilts 180 degrees and its tilted backlit keyboard. To this, it compiles a powerful GTX 1650 Max-Q graphics card for the creative dimension and a bit of play, state-of-the-art connectivity with Thunderbolt 3 and Wifi 6 ax, Windows Hello via webcam and fingerprint as well as an autonomy that exceeds every 10 hours. Chassis, connectors, screen of the MSI Prestige 15 A10SC-407FR
Change of name and scope for the Prestige range. Formerly known under the name MSI PS42 in 14 inches, the Prestige 15 A10SC-407FR is gaining ground and is now part of a more versatile vision, while keeping the elegance and very compact size of the range. Indeed, if the manufacturer is better known for its gaming machines, it has been able to occupy this hotly contested market and offer powerful solutions in a quality case designed for ultra mobility. With a weight of 1.6 kg , it is considered light in its class with 15.9 mm thickness .
The MSI Prestige 15 A10SC-407FR takes place in a gray metal frame with a soft texture underlined on the edges by a shiny blue (diamond) border. The screen adjoins the edges with a very thin frame (90% screen / case occupancy rate) and opens flat (180 degree angle) for more modularity on the move. Note that the case meets the military resistance standard MIL-STD-810G for foolproof strength (extreme heat, shock, fall, humidity, altitude, exposure to the sun). Also noteworthy is its four-level white backlit keyboard that makes typing in the dark and the comfortable 5-degree tilt easier.
As is the trend, MSI has chosen to surround the screen of its Prestige 15 with very thin borders. The impression of immersion is important, especially as the IPS panel is bright and visible from all angles. Good point, MSI has kept the standard positioning of the webcam unlike its Modern range. As for the panel, the dense Full HD definition (1920 x 1080 px) allows you to view High Definition content in the best conditions and to modulate the display. Another good point, it benefits from an anti- reflective treatment which brings its share of comfort on the move. MSI also claims that the color coverage of the panel is close to 100% on the sRGB spectrum.with optimized factory calibration and a Delta E of less than 2, important data for creatives who need the most accurate on-screen rendering for their work.
Let\’s finish the tour of the chassis with the connectors which are state-of-the-art. Alongside two USB 3.2 Gen2 ports, we see two USB Type-C Gen2 ports with Thunderbolt 3 support , a plus for versatility. There is also a microSD card reader and a mini-jack combo socket. Some people will therefore regret the absence of an HDMI port (available via USB-C). The Prestige 15 has also placed an emphasis on security by allowing you to log in easily and quickly using Windows Hello either by facial recognition or through the fingerprint reader. Note that the wireless modules are entrusted to the latest WiFi 802.11 AX and Bluetooth 5.0.
Performance, battery life of the MSI Prestige 15 A10SC-407FR
The element that causes the most interest (and questioning) inside this MSI Prestige is the 10th gen low-power Hexa Core i7 processor , the Core i7-10710U. Our ultrabook is indeed one of the first PCs on the French market to integrate this promising 6-core processor. We obviously lack hindsight but according to the first cross-tests on the web, it seems that the gain is significant compared to the latest low-power Quad Core (i7-10510U / i7-1065G7), especially when running programs taking advantage of from all cores like editing software, 3D, etc. On this ground, he is nearly 50% more powerful than his two cronies.
It thus comes close to a Hexa Core-H, the benchmark in the versatile sector, but with the limitations attributed to low consumption (limited frequency and TDP). Anyway, it seems that this is a solid option for working on a nomadic machine without collecting excessive heat, noticeable noise or reduced autonomy, three complaints often criticized for ultrabooks under -H processors today. Note that the processor is assisted by 8 GB of RAM here, a total sufficient to navigate and work with flexibility, being able to evolve without too much difficulty.
For more details, see our test of the MSI Prestige 14 A10SC equipped with the same configuration.
The front of the stage is also occupied mainly by storage, entrusted to a dedicated 512 GB SSD (NVMe PCIe) which will blow a wind of responsiveness on the system. Overall quieter, more durable and more energy efficient than a mechanical disk, it allows Windows to achieve a remarkable level of fluidity with fast loading times and a performance without latencies. Not to spoil anything, its capacity is comfortable for an SSD and can store most of your video files.
Inside this MSI Prestige 15 A10SC-407FR, we of course notice the latest generation Turing GeForce GTX 1650 Max-Q graphics card . This is a large solution for a compact 15-inch. Unlike the last RTX 20 series, the GTX 1650 in Max-Q design balances with the capabilities of a GeForce GTX 1050 Ti. In fact, she is particularly able to compete with occasional players for a few quality games, but she especially targets the creative people who will find in her the ideal support to let their creativity speak.
The 82Whr battery inside the Prestige 15 A10SC is substantial. In fact, we can expect a comfortable total of 10 hours of autonomy in web browsing via Wifi.
