Thin gaming laptops announced at CES 2022, the Alienware x15 R2 and Alienware x17 R2 in 15 and 17-inch formats with screen up to 4K 120Hz or 2.5K 240Hz run windows 11 with an Intel Alder Lake processor, an NVIDIA Ampere GeForce RTX graphics card or Wi-Fi 6E and Thunderbolt 4 connectivity.
TheAlienware x15 R2 is a new laptop targeting gamers built around an Intel Alder Lake processor and more specifically Alder Lake-H,either Core i7-12700H (14 cores, 6P 2.5 GHz, 8E 1.8 GHz) or Core i9-12900H (14 cores, 6P 2.3 GHz, 8E 1.7 GHz), both with Iris Xeintegrated graphics solution.
This is supported by a dedicated NVIDIA Amperegraphics card, either GeForce RTX 3060 6 GB GDDR6, or more recent.
The display is entrusted to a 15.6-inch ComfortView Plus anti-glare screen, either IPS Full HD (1920×1080) 165Hz 100% sRGB 3ms 300cd/m², or IPS Full HD 360Hz 100% sRGB 1ms 300cd/m², or IPS 2.5K QHD (2560×1440) 240Hz 100% DCI-P3 2ms 400cd/m².
Every option comes with NVIDIA G-Sync and Advanced Optimus.
Above we find a 720p HD Infrared webcam with microphones allowing biometric authentication byfacial recognition via Windows Hello.
We also note the presence of Dolby Atmos speakers and a chiclet keyboard backlit by AlienFX key (1.5mm stroke) N-Key Rollover Anti-Ghosting. It is however devoid of a numeric keypad while this feature is standard from 15 inches.
The core of this gaming laptop, in addition to the Alder Lake, consists of 16/32 GB LPDDR5 5200MHz RAM (soldered) as well as 2 M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD storage slots of 256/512 GB or 1 TB or 2 TB, for a maximum total of 4 TB in RAID 0 (2 x 2 TB).
The Alienware x15 R2 also integrates a connector (positioned on the back) Wi-Fi 6E ax (2×2, Killer AX1675), Bluetooth 5.2, HDMI 2.1, audio combo Headphone / Microphone, 1 USB 3.2 (Gen1, PowerShare), 1 USB 3.2 Type-C (Gen2) and 1 USB 3.2 Type-C (Gen2) Thunderbolt 4.
Featuring a magnesium alloy and CNC aluminum chassis, the Alienware x15 R2 is set to be in a Lunar Light design. It runs on Windows 11 (Pro) with an 87Whr Li-Ion battery. It is cooled by an Alienware Cryo-Tech Cooling solution with 4 fans.
It weighs 2.34 Kg to 2.36 Kg depending on the configuration, and measures 359.7 x 277.33, with a thickness of 15.9 mm (Full HD 360Hz or 2.5K 240Hz panel) or 16.3 mm (Full HD 165Hz screen).
The Alienware x17 R2 stands out for its larger 17-inch format that offers the same Full HD panel options, as well as a bonus 4K Ultra HD (3840×2160) 4ms 120Hz 99% DCI-P3 500cd/m² IPS screen.
It weighs from 2.96 Kg to 3.09Kg and measures 399.23 x 299.57 mm, for a thickness of 20.9 mm (Full HD 360Hz panel) or 21.4 mm (Full HD 165Hz or 4K 120Hz screen).
In addition, this laptop targeting gamers offers a mechanical keyboard option with CherryMX switches (1.8mm stroke) N-Key Rollover Anti-Ghosting.
But still no numeric keypad!
Its Core i9 processor option differs: Core i9-12900HK (14 cores, 6P 2.5 GHz, 8E 1.8 GHz), still with integrated graphics part Iris Xe.
In addition to connectivity, the Alienware x17 R2 offers a Gigabit Ethernet port (Killer E3100, 2.5 Gb/s), while its RAM is 16/32 GB DDR5 4800MHz (2 slots).
The Alienware x15 R2 and Alienware x17 R2 are scheduled for Q1 2022,starting at $2199 and $2299 respectively.
