Dell Inspiron 14 5400 2-in-1 chassis, connectors, display
For an Inspiron, the Dell Inspiron 14 5400 inherits a beautiful design with a chassis made of aluminum . The assembly is neat but the design remains very sober, preferring a gray tint, smooth and matt surfaces and no aesthetic details except the chrome of the hinges and on the edge of the touchpad. Needless to say, this ultrabook will go everywhere, in a professional and fun environment.
We do not have much details as to whether or not a keyboard is backlit or a fingerprint reader on our model, these elements being optional on the 5400 series. However, it seems that the keyboard is well backlit.
Taking center stage, the 14.0-inch screen cultivates a sense of immersion thanks to an edge-to-edge design and the bright WVA IPS panel that is visible from all angles. Good point, Dell has kept the standard positioning of the webcam despite the refinement of the border and it benefits from a shutter for privacy. As for the screen itself, the dense Full HD definition (1920 x 1080 px) allows viewing of High Definition content in the best conditions and modulating the display while the touch technology offers a playful dimension and different from Windows 10. Of course, touch requires, you will have to deal with a shiny screen that reflects reflections in a bright environment.
The connection that equips this Inspiron 14 5400 is correctly provided with a USB-C 3.2 Gen1 which supports the video stream and the power supply, two USB 3.2 Type-A ports (standard format), an HDMI 1.4 output as well as a full size SD card. The wireless modules are entrusted to recent Wifi AX and Bluetooth 5.0.
Dell Inspiron 14 5400 2-in-1 performance, battery life
The Dell Inspiron 14 5400 2-in-1 is powered by a 10th generation processor, a low-power quad-core Core i7-1065G7 . This works in favor of everyday use (web browsing, video playback, spreadsheet, etc.) but can also be faced with more resource-intensive tasks such as video editing, exporting or photo retouching. Indeed, this processor significantly improves performance on the 9th generation and will thus gain a few seconds of execution on certain jobs in particular. Opposite, the RAM provides 16 GB RAM , enough to multitask with the greatest fluidity.
The graphics chip integrated into the processor is promising. With the Iris Plus G7 , Intel is beefing up its integrated solution to flirt with the performance of the NVIDIA MX150 / MX250 and Radeon Vega 10 from AMD. At this level, you should be able to play some games in 1080p under good conditions and work on tasks that are quite demanding in graphics power (Lightroom).
Storage is also receiving attention since it is entrusted to a 512 GB NVMe SSD . This type of solution supplants the hard drive thanks to its excellent responsiveness attributed to the system. On a daily basis, this translates into a perfectly fluid Windows environment with short load times and zero latency execution. What\’s more, the SSD is overall quieter, robust and energy efficient than a mechanical disk and its capacity is just as good as it can accommodate a good portion of your game library.
Let\’s finish with a notion of autonomy. The Dell Inspiron 14 5400 2-in-1 should last a little over 6 hours of battery life (web browsing via WiFi). It is in the low average for this type of ultrabook which calls to be unplugged and transported.
