The Dell Precision 5480 and Dell Precision 5680 are new thin and light notebooks targeting professionals with a 14- or 16-inch display up to 4K OLED DCI-P3. These Ultrabooks that run on Windows or Linux Ubuntu are based on an Intel Raptor Lake processor, an NVIDIA RTX Ada graphics card, PCIe 4.0 SSD storage, a 2-factor biometric authentication solution or Wi-Fi 6E and Thunderbolt 4 connectivity.
The Dell Precision 5480 is a new notebook that measures 310.6 x 210.35 x 7.49-18.95 mm and weighs 1.48 Kg.
It runs on Windows 11 (Pro) or a RedHat Enterprise Linux or Ubuntu 20.04 distribution with a 4-cell 72Whr Li-Ion battery with ExpressCharge technology combined with a 100W or 130W USB-C adapter for models with a dedicated graphics card.
A dedicated GPU option is indeed planned generation NVIDIA RTX A1000 6 GB GDDR6 or NVIDIA Ada: NVIDIA RTX 2000 8 GB GDDR6 or NVIDIA RTX 3000 8 GB GDDR6.
Basic this Ultrabook is built around an Intel Core 13th generation Raptor Lake hybrid and more specifically Raptor Lake-H (45W) Core i5-13500H, Core i5-13600H, Core i7-13700H, Core i7-13800H or Core i9-13900H. All of them integrate the Intel Iris Xe graphics part.
The heart of this laptop also consists of 16/32/64 GB LPDDR5 6400MHz of low-power RAM soldered as well as M.2 NVMe PCIe 4.0 x4 SSD storage from 256 GB to 4 TB in 2242 or 2280 format.
The Dell Precision 5480 is also equipped with Wi-Fi 6E ax (2×2, Intel AX211), Bluetooth 5.2, headphone/mic combo audio and 4 USB-C Thunderbolt 4 as well as a microSD card reader and optional SmartCard reader.
It entrusts its display to a 14-inch 16/10th screen with low blue light emission either Full HD (1920×1200) 100% sRGB 500cd/m² anti-glare, or QHD 2.5K (2560×1600) 100% sRGB 500cd/m² multi-touch touch with finger support and stylus (optional).
Above the screen sits a 720p infrared webcam with microphone allowing facial recognition and therefore biometric authentication through Windows Hello.
This technology is also exploited by the fingerprint reader inserted in the power button.
There is also a TPM 2.0 security chip and FIPS 140-2 and TCG certification.
In its silver anodized Titan Gray design, the Dell Precision 5480 also houses 4 speakers (4 x 2W) as well as a splash-resistant chiclet keyboard with key backlighting option.
The Dell Precision 5480 is expected in April while its big brother the Dell Precision 5680 is scheduled for next May.
It offers a more comfortable format that weighs 1.99 Kg and measures 244.4 x 230.3 x 7.7-11.65 mm.
On the other hand, it does not accommodate a numeric keypad on the right while this feature is standard from 15 inches.
But here we are dealing with a 16-inch 16/9th screen model with low blue light emission either Full HD (1920×1080) 100% sRGB 500cd / m² anti-glare, or OLED 4K (3840×2400) 99% DCI-P3 400cd / m² multi-touch touch.
In addition, the Dell Precision 5680 offers Wi-Fi 6E ax (2×2, Intel AX211), Bluetooth 5.2, HDMI 2.0, headphone/mic combo audio, 1 USB 3.2 Type-C and 2 USB-C Thunderbolt 4 as well as an SD/SDHC/SDXC card reader.
In addition it is provided with additional graphics card options dedicated to Ada Pro: NVIDIA RTX 3500 12 GB GDDR6, NVIDIA RTX 4000 12 GB GDDR6 and NVIDIA RTX 5000 16 GB GDDR6.
Options of Li-Polymer Express Charge 4-cell 66Whr and 6-cell 99.5Whr batteries are also on the program.
