The perfect workhorse for creatives looking for a space-saving, understated ultrabook with enough power to accomplish all sorts of graphics tasks (e.g. architecture, web programming), the Dell Inspiron 14 Plus 7420 has more an asset on the counter. This 14-inch ultrabook summons a powerful 12th Gen 14-core Core i7, backed by fast 512GB SSD storage and 16GB RAM. A 16:10 2.2K display rounds it all out with the addition of some conveniences such as the backlit keyboard, the fingerprint reader, the metal body or the Thunderbolt 4. In addition, the autonomy should reach an honorable total of 9 hours but we have already seen 14 inches nomad lighter and more compact that said.

Chassis, connectors, screen of the Dell Inspiron 14 Plus 7420
For an Inspiron, an intermediate range at Dell, the Dell Inspiron 14 Plus 7420 inherits a beautiful design with a chassis made mainly of aluminum . The assembly is neat and the design remains very sober, although standing out with a dark green hue (Dark Green), smooth and matte surfaces and no aesthetic detail except the chrome of the logo and on the touchpad outline . Needless to say, this ultrabook will go everywhere, in a professional or playful environment.
The keyboard is backlit in white on several shades to facilitate typing in the dark and a fingerprint reader is located at the power button for quick authentication to its session via Windows Hello.
On the front of the stage, the 14-inch screen cultivates a feeling of immersion thanks to the 2.2K definition (2240×1400 px) and the 16:10 format , a little larger in height than 16:9 . We have already seen thinner edges around the screen but it is average and it allows you to slide the webcam up. The brightness of 300 nits is correct for indoor use while the anti-reflective treatment limits the repercussion of ambient light for greater comfort.
The connectivity that equips this Inspiron 14 Plus 7420 is properly equipped with a versatile and state-of-the-art USB-C 4 Thunderbolt 4 port, two USB 3.2 Type-A ports (standard format), an HDMI 2.0 output and a microSD card reader . The wireless modules are entrusted to them with Wifi AX and recent Bluetooth 5.2.
Performance, autonomy of the Dell Inspiron 14 Plus 7420
Inside this Inspiron 14 Plus 7420, we don’t have just any processor but a powerful 12th generation Intel Core-H, the Core i7-12700H (14 cores). Overall, this results in a complete and easy management of the versatile use composed of video editing, 3D animation, programming or parallelization, with complex calculations.
The 16 GB RAM offers all the freedom to multitask on your favorite applications. This is the norm at this level.
Here, no graphics card comes with the processor here but the integrated graphics chip Iris Xe is not ridiculous and still offers a multimedia/versatile profile to the ultrabook. Thanks to it, Intel is back in the race against AMD but also and above all against small NVIDIA graphics cards like the GeForce MX450. Thus, with the Iris Xe, you can play many games in 1080p in good conditions and work on fairly graphics-intensive tasks (Lightroom) without delay. Another benefit of having a faster graphics chip integrated into the processor is to simplify the design of the ventilation system and therefore cause less noise and heat than on a configuration with a dedicated graphics card.
Opposite, the storage is entrusted to a 512 GB M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD which will bring a welcome dose of responsiveness to the system. This is the norm now and the parallel with the standard mechanical hard drive is no longer really relevant. However, note its silence, its robustness and its efficiency in comparison. Here, its capacity is not ridiculous and can accommodate a good part of your toy library even if some will have to couple an external disk to it, in particular to work on video.
Last characteristic which is important, especially on a 14 inch which is intended to move, the autonomy should be around 9 hours of operation . It’s perfect for taking it on the go, especially since it accepts charging via USB-C.
