Chassis, connectors, Dell Inspiron 15 5518 screen
It has a sober and elegant appearance thanks to its light and fine silver design that rises slightly forward when opened.
This versatile Ultrabook has a good connection consisting of 1 USB-C Thunderbolt 4, a practical HDMI video output for easy connection to a TV or a monitor, for example, Wi-Fi ax wireless modules ( more recent and powerful than Wi-Fi ac ) and Bluetooth 5.2 for remote connections and communications, an audio port or even 2 USB 3.0 (USB 2.0 compatible) guaranteeing transfers taking place up to 10 times faster than ‘to USB 2.0 if USB 3.0 devices are connected to it.
In addition, we can authenticate by biometric recognition via Windows Hello technology because it includes a fingerprint reader.
The chiclet keyboard can be backlit which is very practical to better distinguish its keys in case of limited ambient light.
The screen is adorned with an anti-reflective treatment making it more readable in a bright environment (eg outdoors) than a shiny panel. It is also very well suited to the display of High Definition content such as videos thanks to its precise Full HD definition and its 16: 9 format.
Dell Inspiron 15 5518 performance, autonomy
This Dell Inspiron 15 5518 is a high-performance thin and light High Definition laptop suitable for everyday general-purpose use.
This Ultrabook is versatile thanks to its dual graphics solution consisting of a dedicated GeForce MX450 NVIDIA Turing card and an Intel Iris Xe solution integrated into the processor, both allowing you to view photos and videos.
It’s NVIDIA Optimus technology that automatically switches between the two in real time, as needed.
To promote autonomy, the Iris Xe is privileged as much as possible by Optimus despite its modest services because it does not consume much energy. In practice on the autonomy side, we can expect about 5 hours of battery operation in light use.
If the Iris Xe as well as the GeForce MX450 allow you to run games that are not too greedy, the GeForce MX450 is more greedy but also more efficient. It is therefore activated when it comes to performing graphics processing deemed too heavy for the Iris Xe.
It is the Intel Quad Core i5-11300H which integrates within it the Iris Xe, Tiger Lake-H processor which, coupled with 8 GB of RAM, delivers solid general performance able to satisfy a maximum of users. .
The Core i5-11300H notably guarantees faster processing than a low-power Quad Core, especially under CPU-intensive work taking advantage of multicore, such as video editing, photo retouching or 3D rendering.
On the storage side, we find here an SSD that rivals the standard of hard drives in terms of capacity while showing less energy, more robust, silent and much faster.
Concretely thanks to the SSD, we benefit from a much better fluidity and responsiveness on a daily basis than with a simple hard drive. And we benefit from much faster starts / stops just like processing and software launches, or even a faster arrival on the cards of online games.
Of course if 512 GB is too tight, we can rely on an external storage unit. Opting for a USB 3.0 / USB-C / Thunderbolt device then represents an interesting solution to take advantage of fast transfers.
Finally, note that due to its controlled weight and finesse, this Ultrabook is quite easy to carry. But expect it to heat up and be heard under heavy loads (eg treatment).
