This Dell Precision Mobile Workstation 3520 is for those who want to upgrade to a 15-inch Pro-oriented laptop for versatile everyday use.
It runs on Windows 10 Pro, a more complete system than Windows 10 classic with its advanced security and network management tools like BitLocker. To seduce professionals, it incorporates a dual pointing system composed of the traditional touchpad and the most accurate Trackpoint housed in the middle of the keyboard. Chiclet type, the latter benefits from a system of backlighting keys convenient to distinguish them correctly in a dim light.
If it is not part of the clan Ultrabooks, this computer is quite light with just over 2 kg on the scale. Especially in terms of autonomy, it can hold around 7:30 battery on surfing the Internet via Wi-Fi, and of course in lighter use.
We appreciate even more the anti-reflective treatment of its screen because it offers better visibility than a glossy slab in bright environment. IPS, the screen also provides a more accurate colorimetry than average as well as important viewing angles, both horizontally and vertically. Full HD, the screen is also very suitable for displaying High Definition content and especially videos because of its 16 / 9th format.
Whether with the processor-integrated Intel HD 630 graphics solution or the NVIDIA Quadro M620 dedicated card (equivalent to a GeForce 945M), we can of course look at photos and videos on this Ultrabook that takes advantage of NVIDIA Optimus technology.
Optimus switches in practice automatically and in real time between the Intel HD 630 and the Quadro M620 when needed. It prefers to the maximum the first despite its modest benefits because its low energy consumption promotes autonomy compared to the Quadro M620.
More powerful and greedy than the Intel HD 630, the Quadro M620 is able to run games not too greedy graphics resources for concessions and is adapted to some professional software exploiting graphics resources.
With 8GB of RAM and Kaby Lake i5-7440HQ Quad Core processor, this computer delivers solid performance that can satisfy a wide range of users.
Such components guarantee a much faster operation than 4 GB DDR3 / 4 and a Dual Core processor, the difference being particularly noticeable in RAM and CPU intensive work using multicore architecture such as video editing, 3D rendering or Photo editing.
SSD storage helps make this notebook more responsive everyday, more than if it were equipped with a hard drive. Remember that in comparison with the latter, a SSD is much faster while being more resistant to shocks, more energy efficient and silent. However as often the onboard SSD offers a capacity lower than the standard of the hard disks.
If the 256 GB of SSD is insufficient, we can obviously help an external storage unit. Opting for a USB 3.0 device then represents an interesting solution because it takes advantage of transfers made up to 10 times faster than USB 2.0.
The integrated connectivity includes just 3 USB 3.0 (USB 2.0 compatible) as well as 1 USB 3.1 Type-C Thunderbolt 3, Bluetooth 4.2 wireless modules and Wi-Fi ac to communicate and connect remotely, audio and Ethernet ports or convenient HDMI and VGA video outputs to easily connect this PC to a TV or monitor for example.
