I’m testing the new Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum Mop 2S because the price is really very attractive and it has to show whether it’s really that much better than the competition.
With a price of less than 250 euros, the new Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum Mop 2S is priced exactly at the limit that many are willing to pay for a vacuum robot with a wiping function these days. Sure, you don’t get a high-end here with countless functions like an Ecovacs Deebot X1 Omni ( test report ), which is 6 times as much!!! costs. Nevertheless, you can expect a lot and so the “little” Xiaomi has to prove itself in my apartment. For comparison, the Tesvor S4 ( test report ) and the Twotoo T2 AI ( test report ) are one floor higher in price. In the end, nobody was able to convince me, so I’m very excited to see how the Xiaomi with the model name XMSTJQR2S will do.

What I like:
Everything you need is in the box, but nothing more. So the vacuum robot as such, the charging station, the power cable and the German instructions. First of all, there is nothing wrong with the processing. All plastic, but nicely kept in white and neatly assembled. The charging station is designed a little differently than you are used to, because you get a relatively compact block with two spring-loaded charging contacts. The Xiaomi Robot Vacuum Mop 2S slowly reverses to this and then loads it. In the practical test, however, there was a problem, which I will address below.
On top of the vacuum robot is a tower that contains the LDS laser navigation. Incidentally, LDS stands for Laser Distance Sensor, which feels responsible for creating the maps. With this, the Mop 2S has a total height of 94.5 mm, which is slightly higher than many others. This is noticeable for me directly in the practical test. On the top there is also a button with two functions, one with a house symbol and the other with a power symbol. Under the lid of the dust container with integrated water tank and the cleaning tool. Unfortunately, I also have to criticize this tank below.
The first sensors can be found on the front and the charging contacts on the back. On the underside, the two wheels with large spring deflection, the individual side brushes, the removable floor brush, other sensors that protect against falls, for example on stairs, and the plate with the mop. This can be removed very easily from the back by pressing the two orange buttons and pulling them out to the rear. After cleaning the wipe, insertion is also very easy as the panel simply slides in until it clicks. It is advisable to remove and wash this wipe from time to time. Whether under running water or the washing machine. I prefer cleaning in the sink with a coarse dish brush. Everyone has it, it’s fast and very effective.
The linchpin here is again the Mi Home App ( Android / iOS). The connection is established within a very short time and the Xiaomi Robot Vacuum Mop 2S is ready for use. The vacuum robot can also be used via Alexa and Google Assistant via the Mi Home app. Otherwise, the Mi Home App is kept very clear, but offers a lot of possibilities and functions. It starts with a quick mapping of the apartment. It takes me less than 10 minutes and a picture of my apartment is ready for processing. Stupid, however, that I forgot to open the door of the children’s room. No problem. Just have it mapped again quickly and this room is already there. For a busy everyday life with the vacuum robot, you should really take your time and adapt and name all rooms as precisely as possible and set up the zones.
Now you can easily set up no-go areas, virtual walls, but also areas that are not vacuumed or not wiped. One senses carpets, because there is no carpet sensor in this price range. So tell the Xiaomi Robot Vacuum Mop 2S manually where to do what, how often and what not. This can really be adapted for each room or flat for the apartment. That will be important, which I will also talk about because of the size of the water tank.
In practice, it quickly becomes apparent that the Xiaomi Robot Vacuum Mop 2S is quite useful when you consider its price range. At the beginning of a cleaning task, he moves away from the charging station to position himself. Once this has been successfully completed, he makes a beeline for the goal. He skilfully avoids various obstacles. The first trip took him to the kitchen, which is not technically demanding, but leaves enough room for dirt with overhanging furniture and baseboards. And in fact. The vacuum robot moves relatively close to the furniture, so that the side brush also reaches under the baseboard. This rotates relatively slowly, so that dirt is transported to the middle of the vacuum cleaner and not shot across the room, as can be observed with faster rotating side brushes. There is only some potential for improvement in the corners, since the Xiaomi Robot Vacuum Mop 2S moves slowly along them, but does not pay any further attention to them. Just around and away.
In the end, it doesn’t matter whether the vacuum robot vacuums and wipes in a Y-shape, X-shape or S-shape, because I don’t really see a real pattern. The main thing is that it’s clean in the end and he can do that. You actually never get the feeling that it’s still dirty afterwards. Ok, here and there a crumb that was forgotten, but we have a robot in the 250 euro class here. That’s an absolutely top result, especially since it also climbs carpets and cleans them accordingly, even if the suction power doesn’t increase. In general, the vacuum cleaner is reasonably quiet. Of course, that depends on the set suction power, but a “normal” apartment doesn’t need a lot of suction power to still vacuum properly.
When wiping, it’s like so often. The fresh stain from the coffee or sauce is absorbed well, but woe betide the stain has already dried up or is coarser. Since the Xiaomi Robot Vacuum Mop 2S “only” pulls the mop behind it, coarse dirt is usually only distributed but not picked up. This can be seen very well in my coffee mess, which every candidate has to master. In doing so, I spill some water from the coffee machine’s pulp container along with the wet coffee powder and let it dry out a bit. Then the vacuum cleaner has to eliminate it. That doesn’t really work, because the wet areas are wiped properly, but the dried edges remain and the coarser components are distributed on the next edge. So 50:50 solved. But here, too, it must be said directly that Obstacles are skilfully avoided or climbed over if they are of a certain size. The Xiaomi Robot Vacuum Mop 2S tries to run over cables, but this often fails, because the cable gets caught at the mop plate at the latest and is taken away. Just as small runners or carpets. However, it seems to recognize power strips and bypasses them. Slippers are often kidnapped too. Of course, depending on the size, toys are not a problem.
Before you buy, you should also consider that the vacuum cleaner is higher than many others, which was already mentioned at the beginning, which is why it doesn’t get under my couch and also has to fit the coffee table. But that’s not a real disadvantage either, because you can check it before you buy it. In view of the price, the fact that he doesn’t move between the chairs at the dining table is not to be rated negatively, because every now and then he tries it, drives in, also vacuums diligently, in order to then tackle the next chair and then turn away at the last moment. How so? No idea.
What I don’t like:
On the one hand, that the charging station is so light that the Xiaomi Robot Vacuum Mop 2S always pushes it backwards a bit when docking, even if it does so very, very carefully. A bit of foam rubber under the charging station might help here.
Furthermore, the water tank is much too small at just 150 ml, especially since you don’t get a warning when it’s empty. That’s just enough for me for the kitchen if you have it wiped and vacuumed twice. You should therefore make sure that you set the individual rooms accordingly in the app in terms of the number of cleaning processes and amount of water. Nothing is more annoying than the mess you just made in the kitchen because a yoghurt fell out of the fridge, the Xiaomi Robot Vacuum Mop 2S comes around the corner and smears all the crap because there was no water in the tank.
Or the thing with the dust container. In itself, this is properly dimensioned at 400 ml, but unfortunately the developers or engineers forgot to provide a flap or something similar at the inlet for the dirt. If the container is properly filled and you take it out of the vacuum cleaner, then many users will tilt it a bit to remove it. Because there is no lid to close this opening, a lot of dirt falls out when it is removed. From a technical point of view, this is a trifle that is annoying to no end in everyday life.
The creation of automations is still very cumbersome, but this is not a problem with the Xiaomi Robot Vacuum Mop 2S, but with the Xiaomi Mi Home App, which every robotic vacuum cleaner from Xiaomi struggles with. But it belongs to my opinion.
Conclusion:
Is the Xiaomi Robot Vacuum Mop 2S recommended? Yes, because if you consider the price and compare it to the competition in this price range, then it offers good value for money. The Xiaomi Robot Vacuum Mop 2S cannot do anything perfectly, but the overall package is convincing in the end in the practical test. It’s a Xiaomi, so you’ll be provided with firmware updates and you can get a lot of spare parts from Amazon* . Because many forget this item and get annoyed afterwards because there are no spare parts for the no-name robot at a super discount price. And because I’m impressed by what you can get for less than 250 euros, I award the seal of approval.
